Phew, it's hot!

This young grackle has the right idea. He had a very messy bath and then flew off into the trees. Very hot and humid today. We went for our walk very early again this morning. I had a few errands to do in town and then back home again to try and stay cool.
This young cardinal stayed on the deck railing eating sunflower seeds for a few minutes so I was able to get some great photos.
Here he is in the maple tree being fed by Dad. This little family spends part of each day here eating. From what I have read it is the male who feeds the young while the female raises the next batch of eggs.
My Mum gave me this bird book a few years ago. It is the one our family used when I was growing up. It always sat on the dining room windowsill as the bird feeders were right outside the window. My Dad and I loved to watch the birds in the winter. My Mum phoned me very early the morning my Dad died to tell me of his passing. I stood at the window talking to her and I looked at our back fence. The whole top of the fence was lined with mourning doves, my Dad favourite bird. It was very comforting.
Here is a silly picture of Butterscotch. but I wanted you to see how long her tail is. Isn't it crazy?
We went to the Garden Centre quickly this morning. I managed to get this photo of the black fish in the indoor Koi pond. Very pretty.
Meanwhile poor old Chippy looks a little stunned in the heat. As I write this it is 2:00 p.m and it is 80+ degrees. Too hot for me. Time to go get a Fudgsicle!

Take care and stay cool.

  1. I love that you have all the critters around you. Hard for them to stay cool too.

I'm just about to leave the comfort of AC at the office and slog home in the heat -- no AC at the house, either, so it'll be toasty. Still, it won't be long before we're faced with another hellishly cold winter, so we might as well enjoy the warmth as we can. :-)

    1. I don't know how they can stay cool. Hide out I guess.
When I complain about the heat Chuck says the same thing then adds "We are colder a lot longer than we are warm". Doesn't make me feel any better about the heat!
I hope you and the boys can stay cool, Kim. Take care.

  4. I am melting as we speak. I dread to think how much this months hydro bill will be.

    1. Yes the hydro bills can be scary. This is our first summer in this house so it will be interesting to see how much the air conditioning adds to the bill.

    1. Thanks Ronna. I got that just by pure luck. I saw the two of them up in the tree. The sun was in my eyes but I just pointed the camera and took the photo.
