Murray Canal
After picking up a few groceries this morning, Chuck and I felt like going for a quick jaunt before lunch. We have a few very good antique stores just a ten minute drive away so we thought we would visit them. Along the way we stopped at the Brighton Bridge of the Murray Canal.
The Canal was constructed to link Lake Ontario with The Bay of Quinte. It was completed in 1889 taking 7 years to finish. The Canal is 8 kilometres (5 mi) long.
It was very nice there with a cool breeze blowing. Along the upper right side of the above photo is a walking trail. I wasn't dressed for walking so that will have to wait for another time.
This is the swing bridge. Very skinny! Just enough room for two cars.
We are standing on what use to be a railway swing bridge. It was removed when the railway tracks were taken up. We then continued on to the antique stores. Lots of great things but we didn't come home with anything!
We passed by this marsh located about a 10 minute walk from our house. Rather yucky looking!
This part looked better. I could see a few turtles sitting on the bank.
I love the blur of the Bluejays wing. The squirrels have chewed off the perches on this bird feeder so he was trying to hang on to the lip.
Just a lazy afternoon here with some gardening thrown in. I hope you are enjoying your weekend.

I can't recall ever visiting that canal, the pics are great to see. Except for the first pic of the swamp, that does look gross. LOL.
ReplyDeleteMr. Blue Jay is working for his lunch. :-)
Have a great afternoon/evening!
It is very beautiful place to visit. I can't wait to go back and walk along the trail.
DeleteI doubt the Bluejay ended up with many seeds hanging on for dear life lie that!
Take care Kim and I will let you know when I have talked to Lynn.
Oh, gosh, don't feel obliged, she doesn't expect it, nor do I. If you choose to, want to, that's fine, otherwise no one is going to be offended if you don't.
DeleteI want to meet Lynn! We are such a small town here I may already have spoken to her in Metro. It will be nice to know someone you know!
DeleteSuch a nice way to spend a morning. : )
ReplyDeleteIt was Karen and we didn't spend any money! :)
DeleteA quiet Sunday here as well. I'd love to go walking along that canal!!
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to it! We are blessed with lovely places to walk and hike here.
Deletewhen you don't have to spend money to have a good time, that is a good thing!! Hope you had no damage overnight with that storm?
ReplyDeleteHi Gill, no, we had no damage from the storm last night. We just got the first initial wave of rain and the second wave just petered out before it got here.Hope you were alright in your neck of the woods.
