On the road again.

September 1968
I think that could have been our families theme song as I was growing up. Most of these photos were taken on Labour Day weekends. As I have said before my Dad drove many miles for his job everyday but come the weekends he always was ready to travel again. I think it is because of his growing up on a farm where someone always had to be home to take care of the various animals. Sometime Sundays in the summer were the only days they left the farm. Going to church was the outing of the week. My Dad was away at school with his two older brothers for his teenage years so no travelling was done then.
I believe the above photo was taken somewhere in Niagara Falls

I am assuming this is somewhere in Niagara Falls area too. My Mum and Dad would put dates on photos but no locations.

I have no idea why I have such a weird expression on my face in the above photo!  Impressed by the goat (ram?) maybe.

I imagine my Dad was saying something funny to get me to smile. Oh my, I do miss him!
First day of school, September 1968.
This photo must have been taken when we got home from school as Bob is wearing a name tag. I was 4 years 8 months old when I went to kindergarden. Usually you had to be 5 years old but they squeaked me in. I was always the youngest in my classes. I graduated high school a couple of days after my 18th birthday.
I hope you are enjoying this Labour Day Weekend if you celebrate it. Hot and humid again today here but relief is coming. ADDED AFTERWARDS: It is now 4:00 and the temperature is 86 F with a humidex of 104 F. I just went outside to out fresh water in all the birdbaths. Awful! Chuck came out behind me, stayed out for a minute and went back in. Problem was he locked the door automatically behind him. Five minutes later I tried to come back in. I pounded on the door for about a minute before he heard me. I had wilted in the meantime. I hate this heat.
Take care.
Robin

  1. Those are wonderful family photos. I can see that your current frequent day trips continue your childhood pattern. :-)

I don't think we have many family pics, though, my dad probably still has old slides somewhere.

Enjoy the rest of the day... It's way too hot in this house!

    1. Hi Kim,It is funny how our life is mirroring my childhood life. Chuck was the exact opposite. His parents never travelled anywhere, I guess that is why he is always up for trips.
I have SO many photos and my brother and sister have an equal amount. Relief, weather-wise is coming in a couple of days. Hang on Kim!
See you in a few days.

    2. I meant to add how cute you were. :-)

I have a few old pics of me at about age 5 or 6 and I've looked at them and thought, you poor little thing (at what was to come).

I remember our bi-monthly 12-hour drives from Gaspe to Montreal for my orthodontics, those were "fun." LOL. Not a lot of day trip, in Gaspe. We went to Haldimand Beach a lot in the summers, though, when I was very young. The year we spent in Cranbrook, BC, we DID take day trips...I remember old, overgrown cemeteries, which might be why old cemeteries appeal to me me now. :-)

Looks like Thursday or Friday before we get a break from the heat. I'm looking forward to 20C, wish we could have that right into December!

    3. Thanks Kim. I was always mistaken for a boy with that haircut and my name.
What a long drive every other month, oh my.
When we visit next you must tell me about all the places you've lived.
Today was to be the hottest day and temps. downhill from here.
      Take care!

  2. I love old photos. The ones I have are few but precious to me. I sure am glad you didn't have to stay outside in the heat any longer than you did. I'll bet you pounded hard!! I locked myself on the porch one day ( don't ask) and since my DH is somewhat hard of hearing it took some time before he wondered where I was. But it was NOT a hot day and the porch swing is very comfy.

    1. I looked more like my Dad when I was younger, but I seem to resemble my Mum the older I get. We were all blessed in that we enjoyed each other's company and got along well then. I still consider my sister one of my best friends. Glad you liked the photos.
