We are Siamese if you please.

Simon
I grew up with two Siamese cats. My brother, sister and I had been bugging my parents for a cat. My Dad was an electrical supplies salesman who visited many of his customers in their homes. One of his customers raised Siamese cats for showing. One of their cats had a litter in the Spring of 1969. My Dad would visit weekly to get his customers order and fell in love with one of the males. Dad never mentioned anything to us but he planned on purchasing the kitten. One day my brother and I came home from school and found a note on the door (we were latchkey kids). It stated "There is a surprise in the rec room." Down Bob and I went and opened the door. This little kitten who seemed all ears and eyes popped out. I remember taking him upstairs and Bob and I played with him until my Dad got home from work a couple of hours later.
Sonya and Simon
Simon grew all through that summer and we all loved him. My Dad continued to visit the customer where he had purchased Simon and noticed a small female that never got adopted. She was the runt of the litter and had crossed eyes so was not show quality. Week after week went by and no one would adopt her. My Dad felt so bad for her you can guess who came home with him one day in the Fall of that year. I still remember the first time the two cats saw each other. They launched themselves at each other and were just a mass of rolling fur as they fought. This continued on and off for probably two years. As you can see by the photo above they did grow to love each other very much. Simon was a show quality cat but preferred to roll in the dirt or something disgusting outside. He was known all over our neighbourhood and was friendly with everybody. Sonya was more reserved and stuck around home. We would say at night to Sonya "Go find Simon" and 9 times out of ten she would bring him home.
Sonya lived to 17 years of age and Simon to 19. Chuck and I were with my Mum both times at the vet when they had to be put down. They both are buried in my parents backyard and I like to think they are together again.

Have a great day.
Robin

  1. What sweet remembrances. Were they great talkers? I know Siamese usually are. I remember friends of Mom and Dad's, decades ago, had two Siamese cats, Ping and Pong. :-)

Take care and I hope the day goes well, that there's progress with the car insurance.

    1. Hi Kim, Simon was a great talker, Sonya was quieter.
The insurance guy finally showed up after lunch. Some how they had mixed up two files and we're trying to get hold of someone else about our car. He gave no indication of what the outcome will be . He did ask did we want the car fixed and of course we said no the value of it is gone. So it is more waiting!
      Have a nice evening!

  4. What a sweet story. I enjoyed this so much. You had a special dad! My dad loved cat too. I remember the last time he stopped to see us when my girls were young. He had brought them a kitten. The last thing he told them before leaving was to make sure the kitty always had fresh water to drink.

  5. I agree lovely story. We are allergic to cats in our house, which makes visiting the kids' house's fun as they both have two cats apiece!

    1. My Dad was like a big soft teddy bear. Rather gruff on the outside but very sweet and kind on the inside.

  8. Yes, that is a touching story. My DH and I don't have cats any more ( used to when the kids were young) but my son and family who also live in the same house as we have 2 cats. One is a real mischief and tries to escape to "my part" of the house so she can play with the pretty dangly things that she sees in my windows and investigate my house plants. Then she is overcome with guilt and scratches at the door to be let back where she belongs.
