Wings of a dove.

I've noticed in the last week or so a Mourning Dove family in the front yard. I wasn't able to get any decent photos of them until today. I was upstairs painting my toenails when Chuck came up and said "I think I got a clear photo of the mourning doves". The top photo is Chuck's. You can just see the other young dove peeking over the rock on the right.
I took these two but it must have taken me 25 photos to get two clear ones.
I love how the young one is snuggled right in to his Mum (I am just assuming it is a female). She was feeding it little tidbits but I couldn't get a clear photo of it.

We are still frustrated by our auto insurance. They have 24 to 48 hours after a report is put in to contact you. But they go by business days so the countdown started Monday morning. Funny, the house insurance was able to contacted us on the Sunday. I think we are in for a bit of a hassle.

Hopefully we are off to Brambleberry Farm this morning for some more fruit picking. I have to phone and find out if they are picking today.

Take care and have a good day.

  1. It was worth the wait for the pics, both you and Chuck got great shots! I love mourning doves, so pretty in a soft way, if you know what I mean.

I've been meaning to ask: Do you have a Fuji camera? Your default photo names begin with "DSC", which is what the naming convention is with my own Fuji. I like the image quality of yours (and of mine too), and if I get another small point & shoot some day (my Fuji is too big for easy portability), it'll probably be a Fuji. It won't be another Canon, very disappointed in them. Except Dad has a great Canon p&s, but he paid $500+ for it.

Anyway, fingers crossed for the auto insurance and for fruit-picking today too! Applies? Are they ready?

    1. Hi Kim, thanks for your kind words. I do really love mourning doves too.
Our camera is a Sony DSC-H7. It is probably 7or 8 years old. We also have a $69.00 point and shoot Kodak that takes fairly good photos too. I take the Kodak on our road trips the Sony is for at home photos. Your photos always look so perfect.
We are getting nowhere with the insurance company. Chuck is waiting again for them to call us back after phoning them yet again after lunch. There seems to be a lack of communication between the insurance company and the inspector who comes to look at the car.
We didn't get to Brambleberry Farm this morning . We were hoping to pick strawberries and raspberries they have been growing in poly-tunnels. This is the first year they tried this but it has not worked out too well so they have cancelled the picking. I see other farmstands around have apples so they are ready.
Have a great rest of the day and looking forward to seeing you next weekend.

  4. We have a pair of Mourning Doves in a pine tree on the neighbour's property but very close to our house and I love their soft calls. Isn't it unusual for them to raise a single baby though?
It's too bad growing berries in those tunnels didn't work out. Just today we were talking to someone who said many of those tunnels in our area blew away in our recent storm! Not sure what was growing in them.

    1. I love their soft calls too. The other young mourning dove was hiding behind the rock.
I imagine lots of things blew down in your recent storm. We saw lots of photos of the damage.
      Have a nice day!

  5. I absolutely LOVE Mourning Doves! They are so beautiful and interesting to watch.
I think your insurance company should have called you by now, maybe it is time to switch companies?

It ended up being a mixup at the insurance office. They had our name wrong.

    1. They are still hanging around in the front garden. I was just watering my pots of flowers and startled them. They are so beautiful.
