Its oh so quiet.

A quiet time around our house this week. We have been raking lots of leaves (24 bags!) and getting the house ready for the coming winter. The birds and squirrels are very busy too. I took the photo above from our bedroom window. The Bluejay was taking the little pinecones and flying off with them.
I put a handful of peanuts  under one of our trees out back and sat and waited with my camera. Formerly Bald Bluejay who we now call Squeaky because of his squeaky call is very bold and came down right away. I was only about 10 feet away from him so I was able to get a good photo of him.
Very dark but I thought it was an interesting photo.
This is one of our maple trees out back. Very large and very old.
The chickadees are very friendly and come to the feeder when we are standing close by.
I scatter sunflower seed around in a few spots so everyone has a chance for some.
This grey squirrel has been around for the last week or so. I am surprised the black squirrels have not run her (?) off.
We have quite a crowd of Mourning Doves now which makes me happy. We didn't have any until this spring. It was very strange to go through last winter without any. I guess it took them a few months to find our feeders.
This one was enjoying the birch seeds outside our bedroom window.

We are off on a couple of road trips this week. I am looking forward to them. We don't do a lot of travelling once the snow starts to fly.

Take care and have a great week!
Robin

  1. Love your shots, Robin, especially Squeaky at the grey squirrel on the feeder hanger.

Quiet is good. :-) Quiet means all is well and nothing terrible is happening! LOL.

Enjoy the sunny afternoon and take care!

    1. Thanks Kim, I love the Squeaky one too.
I am just about to head back outside. The city is coming this week to pick up the leaves so I want to make sure everything is cleaned up.
      See you soon!

  2. That third photo, the silhouette, is great also the one with the Chickadee with his little foot in the port of your feeder. Since I thought they picked the seeds with their beaks, why is he doing that I wonder?
Have fun on your road trips!!

    1. Hi G.M. glad you liked the photos.
The chickadee did take the seeds from the feeder with his beak. I don't know why he was putting his foot in the feeder. I watched him for a few minutes and he did it each time.

  3. I can't get enough blue jays! The blue jay with a peanut in its beak was especially charming.

    1. Hi Henny. I have many windows that overlook our backyard enabling me to get good photos of all the critters. I have a deck that I sit on too very quietly and the birds don't seem to see me. The squirrels are pretty tame too so they don't give a hoot if I am out there taking their photos!
