Bare Trees.

The garage is finished. Yahoo! Dan left yesterday at lunchtime and we spent the afternoon putting everything back in the garage after sweeping up a large pile of drywall dust. The paint smell was still very strong in the garage so we had the window open. I could hear numerous birds so I grabbed my camera and headed outside for a few minutes. This is one of our oak trees beside the garage. It was a very busy place yesterday!
I noticed squirrels, robins, woodpeckers, nuthatches, chickadees and starlings all up in the branches.
It was a very dull, dreary day but that didn't stop anyone.
This woodpecker was tap, tapping for quite awhile.
The squirrels were constantly up and down the tree adding material to their nest.
It is quite high up in the tree. The wind does blow quite strongly in the winter so I hope they built it well!
I lost count of how many robins were around. I still can't believe how many have stayed this winter.
The goldfinches were enjoying the niger seed too. I am surprised they still are a bit yellow, not totally dull coloured yet.

With the garage finished we are done with renovations for the time being. I think I have said this before!

Take care and have a good week!
Robin

  1. What a great afternoon with the camera and all those birds! Such variety! BTW, I actually thought squirrels would nest inside tree cavities and other more protected places, I didn't know they would build nests out in the open up in a tree, like a bird. I hope that nest will make it through the winter! Speaking of, it's going to be a huge shock to us all when we finally do get snow and ice!

Glad all is done with the garage and that it's been mild enough to still have a window open!

    Take care.

    1. I always assumed squirrels nested in tree cavities too until we moved here. We had a couple in the maple tree off the back deck last winter n a very flimsy looking nest. It lasted the winter though. It was funny to see them pop their heads out in the morning and streeeeecth and then sit and scratch at their fleas before coming down to the feeders to eat.
Let's hope this mild weather lasts a little longer!
      YOU take care Kim.

  3. I can well imagine how relieved you are that the garage is back to rights again. The weather is so nice I would not be surprised if you went off for an adventure trip this week.

  4. You have tall bare trees too! I just love that little black squirrel! Wouldn't it be fun to have a pet squirrel like him? That kitty cat in your last post is adorable.

    1. Our tall trees are the old forest tress here. Luckily the builder 25 years ago left many of the trees in place.
      Everybody loves Corky!
