The Pine Tree.

Here is our sad pine tree in the front yard. As you can see on the right hand side it is dying off. We hated to do it but it had to come down. We had it trimmed last summer in hopes that the whole tree wasn't affected but it was not to be.
Wednesday afternoon three young guys came by and went at it. This young fellow was up the tree just like a squirrel!
All the branches off first.
Then down it came. They came back this morning and chipped it all and cleaned up. We will (I think) be grassing it and making a small garden there in it's place.
Meanwhile in the backyard Butterscotch stopped by briefly.
As did many other creatures.

Chippy was racing around so quickly I couldn't get a photo of him facing frontwards. You can see how full his little cheeks are!
The male cowbird's are back. A small flock of them spent quite awhile at the feeders.
Tuesday morning we had to take the car in for service. As we were waiting I noticed this lovely car in the showroom. I imagine it would be fun to drive!
We popped quickly into a thrift store and I spotted this record. It is very rare here to see a Sonny and Cher record so we purchased it. My goodness, does Cher sing beautifully.
And lastly Janice called over and mentioned she was overrun with eggs. A friend has chickens and gives Janice eggs when they are laying like crazy. There originally was a dozen but we had an omelette. Love the pale green egg!

Rainy and mild here today but it isn't supposed to last. The weekend is to be cold and Monday  the forecast is snow!

Have a great weekend!
Robin

  1. It's kind of sad when a tree gets 'sick' and has to come down. Looks like yours was quite an old tree too. The squirrels will be confused when they look for it.

    1. We hated to cut it down but it was so diseased we had no choice. It probably was pretty old. There are quite a number of them in the neighbourhood so hopefully they survive.

  4. Too bad about the tree.
I like watching how they take a tree down though.

    1. Hi Karen, yes it is sad about the tree. I think it took them about 20 minutes to cut it down. Very quick.

  5. I'm always so sad to see trees taken down, too, but better to have a diseased one removed. You wouldn't want it falling on anyone's house (like yours) in a giant wind storm!

The critters look great...no sign of Tippy at all? :-(

Mmm, fresh eggs! The taste is so different (IMO) from the ones you get in a grocery store. Plus it's great to know where the eggs are coming from, that the chickens have a good life.

Purrs from the boys and peace from me!

    1. Hi Kim, we were worried it would come down in a storm. When the tree guy looked at it he said "She's done!"
No sign of Tippy. Jean Luc seems to be gone too.
The eggs are delicious! The chickens have a lovely life and are fed all organic feed. Janice is so generous to share them with us.
      Take care!

  6. It always breaks my heart when a tree has to come down, even when it is sick. It just tears me up. I love Sonny & Cher! When my husband was young, everyone said he looked like Sonny and his voice is just like Sonny's was! How lucky you are about those eggs! catchatwithcarenandcody

    1. We hated to get rid of it but we really had no choice. Ah, someone else who likes Sonny and Cher! I loved there T.V show back in the 1970's.

  7. I am always amazed at how those guys can climb and take down a tree piece by piece. Our hens are laying like crazy now too...we have so many eggs I don't know what to do with them.

    1. The tree cutting was done so quickly it was amazing! It seems to be feast or famine with eggs at times doesn't it?
