"Smile A Little Smile For Me"

If we all could be happy with just a peanut! This squirrel stood and ate the handful of peanuts I put out with a smile on it's face.
Slow week this past week. Chuck is finished his contract job this Friday and won't be going back until January. The days seem to be creeping along. We are like kids anticipating Summer holidays!  To be able to sleep in past 5:00 a.m. will be such a treat. Kim from "Musings On A Small Life" is coming for a visit this week. We are very much looking forward to spending time with her.
Beautiful skies morning and night  these last few days.
We were out shopping in Belleville on the weekend and spotted a Maverick. This was the model of car we had that caught fire in our garage in August of 2015. Very rarely do you see them here anymore as the newest one would be almost 40 years old.
The leaves are just starting to change here. In another week or so this curve in the highway will be red and orange.
Finally a few birds at the feeders. Sweet Pea must have been off somewhere for this bird to take a chance and visit.
This bird (I believe a Warbler) flew into our sliding glass door as we were eating lunch on Sunday. Sorry so blurry. He rested there for a couple minutes. We assumed Sweet Pea was not around. A few seconds after I took this photo Sweet Pea grabbed the bird. Chuck and I both yelled at him but he ran off. We don't know the fate of the bird, if it managed to get away.
Then not an hour later he had a squirrel cornered on the fence. Look familiar Kim? Sweet Pea did wander off after a couple minutes. Then the squirrel got down and came up on our back deck. I was just looking out the sliding door when the squirrel whizzed by with Sweet Pea right after him. He (Sweet Pea) was back a minute later so he wasn't successful in catching it.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week.
Take care!
Robin

  1. I think I've seen warblers around here. Isn't fall gorgeous?

    1. I can't say I've ever seen a warbler around here, this was the first. I hope he got away from Sweet Pea!
Fall is my favourite time of the year.

  2. Poor little warbler. I hope Sweet Pea was quick with it (unless it got lucky and got away). I would be surprised if Sweet Pea ever managed to get one of the squirrels, though. More likely the squirrel will chase the cat. :-D

I'm sure we could learn a lot from squirrels and other non-humans if only we paid attention. Yes, how blessed we would be to be happy with just a "peanut."

Oh, I've noticed our leaves changing now, the maples turning a lovely bright red (unlike last year), and coming home on the bus yesterday (?) I noticed how yellow some of the trees are -- we were heading over the bridge that runs above the train tracks, on Princess Street, so I had a higher view. Somehow we've settled into fall without my really noticing, maybe because it's still be warm enough not to need the furnace on.

    1. I hope Sweet Pea was quick with it too. Poor thing! It would be funny to see a squirrel chasing Sweet Pea. He is rather a terror to the neighbourhood critters.
It seems like the leaves just started changing over the weekend. We have two burning bushes out front and I noticed today they are starting to turn red. No furnace this week! It is supposed to be nice and warm.

  3. I'd like to think that the little Warbler escaped but somehow I doubt it. I guess Sweet Pea was just being his cat self. Still...

    1. I would love to think the warbler DID get away. This was the first time I have seen one this close up. I know there are millions of birds but it is tough to see one snatched away like that.

  4. Our squirrels seem to understand the concept of glass, but the cats seem to forget. I swear the squirrels make faces at the cats when they are on opposite sides.

  7. Sweet Pea is quite the hunter. I do hope the bird managed to get away.

Trees here are divided between those already turned and almost bare, and those just turning. But the weather has become chilly. Autumn is here!

    1. He is very much a hunter. I watch him snatch bugs right out of the air.
We are in for a bit of a warming spell for the next few days. The last gasp of summer.

I really am looking forward to sleeping in a bit. I am a morning person but it is rather hard getting up at 5:00 a.m. this time of year.

  11. Isn't it a full time job taking care of the animals, or I should say worrying about the animals. Poor little bird trying to get his senses back and along comes the cat. It's that way here all the time. :) A neighbor's dog caught and killed our only baby guinea a few days ago.

    1. Goodness Henny, no one works as hard as you taking care of animals! I am so sorry about your baby Guinea. It is hard living in the country where there are so many roaming animals.
