"Dog Days Are Over"

The dog days are coming to an abrupt end here in Ontario. We have been enjoying beautiful Fall weather for the last six weeks. Saturday night into Sunday that is all going to change. We thought with the lovely weather yesterday afternoon we would head out to Campbell's Orchard for some of their scrumptious honey. I received a notice on Facebook that they had the honey available in their store. From past experience I know it doesn't last long! Sophie the dog met us as we got out of the car. Isn't she beautiful?

I don't recall this tractor there when Kim and I visited last month but we were so busy talking I may have walked right by it!
Great birdhouse!
Chuck sat in the big chair. All the animals have gone back to their farm. It is rather quiet there now with just Sophie wandering around.
All the work that went into this miniature house. It has sat out on the cart for a few years now.
They, of course, are gearing up for Christmas with so many great Christmas items.
Sophie wandered off to the side yard. She nosed around under an apple tree and came running back to the front of the store with an apple in her mouth.
She crunched it up in thirty seconds or so. It was funny to watch her eat it. We purchased our honey and decided to go for a bit of a ride before heading home.
It is a miracle to me that we have so much farming in this area. The soil is very rocky as you can see here.
Love the old barn!
The view across the Bay. That is the Air Force Base in the background.
So many lovely old brick homes.
You know I want to have a snoop in the old shed!
This bridge was built in 1918. It is too skinny for two cars to go through at once so one way you have to yield to oncoming traffic. We headed home from here and enjoyed a piece of toast with honey. Yummy!
This is a common sight when we look out our kitchen window. I don't know how a squirrel can eat like that!

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
Robin

    1. Hi Karen, Sophie is a sweetie. She and Mac the cat are such wonderful greeters at Campbell's. I am sure half of us go there just to see Sophie!
      Take care.

  2. Sophie! Oh, I want to kiss that sweet face. :-)

Great day for such a lovely outing, Robin. You guys had a great drive! I don't recall the tractor, either, but they had so much *stuff* around that it might not have been noticed.

Squirrel yoga. Keeps you flexible for just such moments. (And food is a great motivator. Hmm, maybe I'd do more yoga for food too. Ha.)

    1. Sophie is the sweetest dog! We met on our walk at Proctor Park today another golden lab. She was as friendly as Sophie.
It was a perfect day. Most of it spent outside which makes me happy. The yummy honey was the bonus!
The squirrels are keep on their toes here with all the cats. I do love watching them!

    1. Hi Caren, there is something special about orchards isn't there? I spent much time in my grandfather's while growing up.
      Have a good week!

  4. I always want to explore abandoned buildings, too. We see quite a few old ones falling apart on farms, the people having moved into newer houses, probably. I think that I might find a tin box full of money or, better yet, old books or diaries.

Funny that Sophie the dog ate an apple. Still, my old dog, Finnigan, used to love lettuce, so why not?

    1. I am with you, I love old buildings! I would love to find an old diary from the occupant of an abandoned house.
I don't have much experience with dogs, cats are more my thing. Our first cat loved blue cheese. He and my husband would share a piece on occasion.

    1. Sophie has been the mascot of the store for some years now. She looks great though. Must be all the apples!

  6. Like the previous comments, I also think Sophie is adorable. But then I'm more of a dog person ( big dogs) than a cat person. Bracken eats apples quite happily as well as almost all other fruits. One year he got into a box of apricots that were ripening but either his doggy conscience made him stop or he didn't like them much but either way he only ate a few.

    1. Great story about Braken G.M! I have had cats my whole life except for the last two years. My sister had a chihuahua that we all loved but he acted pretty well like a cat!
      Have a great week!

  7. What a fun post. Love that first birdhouse, and isn't is fun to have Sophie wandering around with you! I love that. My old Mabel isn't interested in car trips to anywhere these days.

    1. It seems most of the farm stands we visit have dogs and cats as greeters. More so they are the ones I like to visit!
      Have a good week!

  8. I love visiting PEC with your blog! My fathers family was from the Picton area (UEL) but I haven't been there in years.
Do cats just come running out of the woods and the lanes to greet you? So sweet.

    1. Hi Karen, glad you enjoyed the photos! You should pay a visit to Picton sometime. I am sure it has changed quite a bit since you were last there.
I have been a cat person my whole life and my husband is one of those people that animals seem to love. If there is an animal around it will find Chuck!
      Take care.
