"A Garden In The Rain"

The wacky weather continues here in our neck of the woods. This is a photo of our neighbour Merv's garden by his fish pond. A couple days ago it was freezing, today it is pouring rain and expected to go up to 45F.
The birds don't seem to mind.
Sunrise a few days ago. I didn't notice the fog(?) in front of the middle large pine tree until I downloaded it.
Saturday morning was sunny but cold. Great day to be out. We visited Proctor Park briefly. We tried to walk through the conservation area but with the freezing temperatures the pathways were very icy. Chuck nearly slid down an embankment so we thought it best to try another day.
Up on the hill behind our house. Brighton Bay is breaking up.
Back at home the birds are busy in the trees and at the feeders.
They are getting yellower!
Poor old Punkin. He is a little battle weary. I am able to pet him on the head but I would not attempt to hold him. I imagine I would be shredded!
We visited Kim on Sunday. Beautiful day for a road trip.
One of her cat's Nicki being camera shy! Not really, he was moving around quite a bit and of course the only clear photo I took of him was the back of his head.
Derry was watching people out the front door so I was able to snap a good photo of him.
Kim's photo. Thanks Kim!
Chuck took down the ceiling fan in this photo and installed a new one. Nicki snoopervised and was a great help!
After a lucious lunch with Kim we headed out to do a few errands. We hit Value Village which was having a half price sale. Note to self: do NOT visit Value Village in the afternoon during the half price sale! It was a zoo! We each did pick up a prize though so it was worth it. Visit Kim to see more photos.
We headed home mid-afternoon. A lovely day spent with a friend!
Sunset Sunday night was gorgeous.
I love the yellow speckles and beak on the Starlings.

After only 10 days Chuck and I received our passports. That was quick!  There may be a road trip in May if everything works out. I will let you know!

Enjoy your week!
Robin

  1. Value Village on half price day is the worst.... and the best!

Love the starling! When I was a kid growing up in the country, the farmers use to complain about them and the grackles. But I always liked them.

    1. That is so true! You can pick up some great bargains but the waiting in line is terrible!
I guess the starlings and grackles are not a farmers friend but I enjoy them too.
      Have a good day!

  2. That's not fog, in front of those trees. That is bits of dragon breath! :-)

You take wonderful photos of birds. Look at how you capture the starling speckles even!

No walking, on places, which are still ice covered. ,-)

and now you will have me singing, "'Twas Just a Garden In The Rain... And then the sun came out again... And sent us happily on our way..." :-)

    1. Hi Luna, I was trying to figure out what that was in front of the tree!
We so want to walk in the conservation area but being mostly shaded there is still ice around. Hopefully in the next couple weeks we can get in there!
It is a lovely song isn't it?
      Enjoy your day!

  3. Beautiful photos of the birds. Sorry your walk was cut short due to icy pathways. Lovely to have a visit with Kim. I try to stay out of crowds in stores, especially on weekends! lol
Love all the sweet kitty cats.

    1. Thanks Mildred! As I siad to Luna, we hope to get in the conservation area soon. Just too many places we could fall and injure ourselves!
I am not a fan of crowds either but we were looking for a few things. Chuck found a Sony iPod docking station with radio that retails normally for around $150.00. We paid $20.00 and it works perfectly.
      Nicki and Derry are sweethearts!
      Take care Mildred.

Always love seeing kitty photos sprinkled in among the birdies. Hope you get to make your road trip in May.

    1. Hi Dee, it took me a couple months to even attempt to pet Punkin. He is a little intimidating!
I take photos of what I love and hope everyone enjoys them.
A few things have to come together for us to be able to have our road trip. We are hopeful!
      Be well!

  5. Anytime I see 'outdoors' cats, I always wonder; did someone get them neutered/spayed? Love your photos, and yes, the weather is wacky; going from 20-30 degrees over average, to the same amount BELOW. We are not putting away the snow shovel yet!

    1. I do not believe Punkin is fixed. He has hung around the neighbourhood for years according to a neighbour. Sometimes we don't see him for a week or so at a time. I feed anyone who comes to the door and do what I can!
No, our snow shovel isn't being put away yet either. March has a nasty habit of sending a few storms.
      Take care.

  6. Thanks so much for the wonderful visit, Robin, and the (never-ending) help! :-)

The shots of Proctor House and of the starling are my favourites, though they're all wonderful. Poor Punkin, though. The life of a street cat, especially unneutered, is a hard one.

As for the rain...at least it's not (a) freezing rain or (b) snow!

    Have a great day. :-)

    1. Hi Kim, glad you commented as the darn emails decided to stop working a few hours ago!
I thought Proctor House looked so pretty in the sun on Saturday i couldn't resist taking a photo or two.
When Mum and Dad took in Herman the stray cat it was a little scary. He tolerated my parents but if you walked by him there was a fifty/fifty chance he would take a swipe at your legs. Not fun! I think Punkin may be the same.
      Take care Kim!

We are very blessed to have Kim living fairly close (an hour) and we all get along so great. How often do bloggers meet and be able to maintain a friendship? We all are very lucky!
      Have a good day!

  8. Fun post. The starling's stars are darling! (Say that three times fast! lol) We have had the same wacky weather.... and it continues today with a fierce wind, churning white caps on Lake Michigan, and a day with the mercury dropping, getting colder all day. The next week or two look quite cold, according to the extended forecast.

    1. Hi Marcie, I guess the yellow stars and beak on the starling could have been my yellow for yesterday!
I grew up a block away from Lake Ontario and we always loved to go down to the lake to watch the waves churning.
I don't think we are supposed to be too cold coming up. As long as it is above 32F I am happy!
      Enjoy your day!

  9. I love thrift and charity shops, and Value Village is fun! Your photos are absolutely gorgeous, I love every single one! I love the rain (I realize I am in the minority), and the birds don't seem to mind, as they get a free bath offered from above. Thank you so much for sharing your life and your beautiful photos. I really love your posts. :)

  12. I avoid thrift stores on half-price day.
It's snowing heavily yet again today. I am so tired of this endless winter. When I close my eyes at night I see falling snow. I'm not kidding.
Don't you love it when you notice something like the fog on the pine tree only after you download it?

    1. Hi Granny Marigold, we usually avoid the half price sales too. We had the old ceiling fan of Kim's to drop off so we thought we might as well pop in. We each found something so it worked out well.
I heard you received more snow. What is going on???? It WILL be over soon!
I love the surprises you sometimes find when you download photos!
      Be well!

    1. Hi Linda, I do try to avoid VV during their sales but thought we would give it a go. The store in Kingston is very large with tons of stock. Makes ours in Belleville look very small!

First LOVE cats I do...I am truly partial to cats. ANY cat, great or small.
    Then the scenic photos...awesome.
Now that he's finished with the ceiling fan...we need one replaced. Any volunteers?

Oh, and not to forget the bird photos...exceptional.

I do love cats too. My Dad brought home our first one when I was five years old and I have been crazy about them ever since.
Chuck would love to come and replace your ceiling fan. Might take us awhile to get there though!
