"She Took Him To The Lake"

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. It finally felt like Spring here so we were able to spend much time outside.
Last Thursday was a gorgeous day so off we went on our long walk. I LOVE walking down by the water. Growing up, you may remember, we lived a block from Lake Ontario. I spent so much time down at the Lake at first playing with my siblings and friends, then latterly walking with my Dad.
We are blessed to have this beautiful Bay so close by and our town encourages you to stop and enjoy the views by providing benches along the waterfront.
This time of year so many waterfowl are migrating. There is always something to look at.
I only took along my little point and shoot camera on Thursday so was not able to zoom in too far on the Heron. If you click on the photo you should be able to see him in the middle in the cattails.
I love the old trees that line the shore.
Snowball visited two days in a row which is very unusual. With the warmer weather her owners are letting her out more. Love her big feet!
Just trying the different filters with the new photo program.
We were just a few blocks into our walk Thursday when we came upon a lady trimming her pussy willow bush. We got to chatting and she offered us some trimmings. This is the smaller arrangement I have on the kitchen table. There is a larger one on the dining room table.

Lovely Miss Kitty posing so prettily!
We popped into our local hardware store for a few things and as we were looking in the nuts and bolts aisle I noticed their great scale. You still put your loose nuts and bolts in a paper bag and they weight them.
The birds are loving this milder weather. So many Grackles around. A pair of Mourning Doves appears to be nesting in one of our evergreen trees.
My morning routine. I get up, put out food for the visiting kitties then scatter sunflower seeds and peanuts out for everyone else. I usually repeat it later in the day too.

Chuck is back to work today. It will be different as he hasn't worked full time since last September.

My friend Janice from our old neighbourhood in Trenton is taking possession of the house two down from us here in Brighton in a few weeks.  They won't fully move in for a month or so as they have to build a fence for their pets and do a few other things. It will be great to have her as a neighbour again!

Have a good week.
Robin

  1. it is always good to have a friend for a neighbor. those pussy willows are gorgeous and I would love to have them in a vase here. have not seen them in many years. snowballs pudgy foot is so sweet and miss kitty is beautiful... like the old scale. back in 1950 by dad worked as a butcher, he was fired because when he weighed meat for someone, he was to put his thumb on the scale and make it weigh more.. he refused and lost his job. he went to work for Sears, selling sewing machines, they wanted him to lie to the people about the sewing machines, he refused. guess what happened.

    1. Hi Sandra, We really are looking forward to having our friend as a neighbour again. She and her husband are rather zany like we are so we all get along.
Your Dad sounds like a wonderful man. Incredible they wanted him to cheat everyone!
      Have a good week.

Oh too bad you lost your pussy willow bush in a storm. We are trying to root a few pussy willow branches. Hopefully they will take.

    1. Hi Robin, I could walk along the Lake everyday but I would waste (not the right word) so much time there. I know I would not be happy in a big city with no access to nature. Thankfully we are surrounded by parks and water.
      Have a wonderful day!

  5. Oh how lucky you are, to have access to water! We are land locked here, except for a couple of small lakes... Which you can't much access.

    Lovey photos, all.

Again, how lucky you are, to have nice access to water. :-)

    1. Hi Luna, I know we are very blessed to be surrounded by parks and water here. I have lived my whole life close to water be it Lake, Bay or Ocean. My sister is in a land locked city and it drives her crazy. Luckily they do have a cottage they escape to a couple times a year which is on a Lake.
      Take care!

  6. So many good things going on around there. That close-up on Snowball's face is a bit creepy... but still cute. I went to school in Brockport and use to love to go to Lake Ontario (I can't remember the name of the beach) when we could find someone with a car interested in the outing.

    1. Hi Mitchell, Brockport isn't too far from where I grew up in St. Catharines, just over the Canadian border. Small world!

That scale is fabulous, and so neat it's still in use!

Snowball does have the best toe tufts, Miss Kitty wins the prize for beautiful eyes and Sweet Pea wins for the most adorable ears. He has little tufts on the tips I noticed this morning.
      Take care and talk soon!

  12. I love the fur between the toes on snowball. When we first had the kittens I had never had a long haired cat before and so had not come across these tufts, I asked the vet if i should cut them off, I was so naive, lol

    1. Hi Cheryl, we've never been lucky enough to have a pussy willow bush at any of our homes. My parent's had a small one too but my Dad preferred it not to be pruned as it was so small. I was fortunate to come upon someone pruning theirs!
      Have a good day.

  14. I quite like the picture pf the hole in the old stump.
I haven't found any Pussy Willows this year that didn't involve wading into water. I think they are such an emblem of Spring.

    1. Hi Granny Marigold, I liked the tree stump photo too. It looks like many critters have been at it!
We literally fell upon our pussy willows. I went back the next day to see if there were any more trimming left. Not a one! She had quite a pile but obviously the word got out and they were gone.
      Take care!

    1. Hi Annie Bear, my friend Janice loved our new neighbourhood here in Brighton and said if I ever heard of a house coming up for sale to let her know. I few days later an elderly neighbour mentioned he was moving into an apartment and did I know anyone who was looking to move to Brighton. You can guess the rest!
      The scale was very interesting.
      Have a great day.

    1. Hi Rose, the kitties are pretty gorgeous but can't stand each other. I have seen them right in my driveway fighting so badly the fur was flying. We have to be very careful that they don't meet up. Snowball is only out occasionally so it isn't hard to do.
      Have a wonderful day.

    1. Hi Rue, I love the scale too! It is quite an old fashioned hardware store. They still have a parcel wrapper too. It is a large roll of brown paper on a rack. Next time I go in I will try to get a photo of it. Like you I love old things!
I have had pets my whole life too so yes they get fed first!
      Enjoy your day.

  23. We sometimes take our lunch to the lake which is part of our river navigation system. We also enjoy watching the waterfowl, and sometimes google to learn more about different ones. I "stalk" the Great Blue Herons trying to photograph them when they are feeding in ponds around here. I always enjoy your wonderful photos!
