"Tumbling Down The Rabbit Hole"

Happy Easter everyone! I picked up these cute little rabbits at the Church Thrift Store on Thursday.
It was such a beautiful day I had another little wander around town.
The church the Thrift Store is affiliated with is beside the store. The choir was practicing inside so I stopped to listen for a few minutes. Lovely singing. This stain glass window is over the front doors.
There is a small sign on this house with the date 1862. Beautiful porch.
This rock lined garden is new. Lots of fresh earth was added getting ready for planting season.
The garden across the street.
Great old door on a very old apartment.
Sweet owl perched on the windowsill.
I find this house very interesting. We believe it was originally a barn for a large Victorian home that would have been in front of it. The Victorian home is long gone. It would be interesting to see what has been done on the inside.
Is anyone else doing this?? Just before New Years another blogger mentioned a challenge of gratefulness. Your would purchase a page-a-day calendar and each day write something you were grateful for from the day before. I always purchase a couple of these calendars so thought I would try it. This Red Rose tin sat on my parent's counter for probably 20 years.
My parent's kept their tea bags in it. I have nothing but good memories connected with this tin so thought it would be the perfect thing to use. Each morning I write down something I am grateful for. Some days I have to think about it but most days I could write more than one item. It has helped me concentrate on the good things that happen in my life.
I purchased my pansies on Thursday and potted them up. One fell off so I gave it to Miss Kitty while she was in her basket.
I think I posted this photo last Easter but thought some of you may not have seen it then.
I am on the left beside my sister Joanne, then on the right is my brother Bob. I believe this was Easter 1968.
Have a wonderful Sunday!
Robin

  1. A beautiful day, to take a stroll, and find lovely photo ops. :-)

Love that old brick home, and the porch. -sigh- Love all porches. Obviously, we don't have one. It wouldn't fit on a Dutch Colonial. But my husband did make a patio, out there. But.... It's just not like a real porch!!!! ,-)

    Sweet old photo.

    Happy Easter!

    1. Hi Luna, it was such a beautiful day I felt I could just keep walking but my knee wouldn't be too happy!
We don't have a porch either but we do have a large deck that extends around the back of the house.
Hope you had a lovely Easter.

  2. A lovely walk around the town and beautiful photos. I love that Red Rose tin and how you use it now. I may try that gratefulness challenge. It's good to remember something everyday to be grateful for. Just yesterday we saw a whole flock of terns over the bay. Hadn't seen them here before. Wonderful photo of you and your sibs when you were little. Happy Easter to you and yours!

  5. Those are adorable bunnies, just perfect for the time of year. I have porch envy and if we were to ever have another house it would have to have a big wrap around porch. Enjoy the weekend.

    1. Hi Linda, when Chuck and I were first married we lived in a house built in the 1920's. Of course it had the huge front porch all the homes built back then seemed to have. Even in a wicked rainstorm we could still sit outside and not get wet. I do miss it!
      Enjoy the week!

  6. Hoppy Easter! I love the dancing bunnies....so much fun. I saw years ago where folks were taking a Ball jar and write down good memories and put them in the jar and in a yr go back and re-read them. I don't think they were doing it every day but I like the idea of doing something grateful from each day. Nice idea. Love the old door and door knob. I would love to replace my knobs one at a time for the house.....that would be a lot of replacing! lol...thanks for sharing.

    1. Hi Pam, I forget where I read about the gratefulness tin but I thought it was such a good idea. I kept meaning to get a photo of the old doorknob but kept forgetting to walk by. I quickly snapped this one as it is very near a busyish street and someone would wonder what I was doing! We have replaced most of the doorknob inside our home with levers.
      Have a good day!

  7. Happy Easter to you! And I am so glad that you took a lovely walk and I love all the things in your photos! I remember mentioning on a couple of occasions on my blog about writing something every day (something good that happened), and placing these good memories in a box, tin or a journal/diary. At the end of the year you can read all the wonderful things that happened! And I love your vintage tin and am so glad you have such wonderful memories associated with it. And your 1968 photo is beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing.

  9. What a fun post. The thrift store bunnies are super cute, and the stained glass above the church door is lovely! Did Kitty eat the pansy blossom? I have eaten many myself on a salad! :D

    1. Hi Marcie, the thrift store is so interesting. You never know what you will find there. New clothes, vintage clothing, great household things.... it is only open a few days a week as it is run by volunteers so it is always an adventure going there.
      Have a good day!

  12. The little rabbits are so sweet, super find, Robin. I love that rock-lined garden too, it looks great! Maybe they could come and work on mine. LOL. I want that owl in the window, btw. :-)

Love the idea of writing down the items you're grateful for and putting them in that wonderful old tin. I did that for a while, popped my items into a glass jar. I've also done it via journal over the years. Any way you do it, written or not, it's far better to focus on the good in one's daily life. There's an almost-100 year old Yoga teacher who gets up every morning and says that today is the best day of her life. Love the attitude!

Take care and happy Easter to you; happy Passover to Chuck.

I really liked the rock-lined garden too. Always looking for new ideas when I walk around and look at peoples garden.
Some days I could write down a number of things to be grateful for, some days I do have to think about it. Of course the simple act of waking up and being alive is something to be grateful for!
Hope all goes well today with the HVAC install!
      Take care.

  13. Good Afternoon! Those are the cutest rabbits from the thrift store. I love the window over the church doors. The brick home with the nice porch is so pretty. I love your photo of the old door too. I enjoyed your childhood picture. The tin that belonged to your parents is very special. That's a great idea to write down something we are thankful for. Each day is filled with so many blessings. Miss Kitty pictured with the pansy is precious. Have a lovely evening.

  14. The cute rabbits are perfect for Easter. We had a wild rabbit in the front garden today. It sat there while we were quite close by so I told my GS he'd better shoo the bunny away because I remember the havoc rabbits created in my roses!
Writing down something you're grateful for each day is a great idea. Hope you have a good week ahead.

    1. Hi Granny Marigold, I don't normally decorate for Easter but thought the bunnies would be perfect. Yes, I know how destructive bunnies can be. The veggie garden at one of our homes suffered from the bunnies nibbling in it!

  18. Did Miss Kitty eat the pansy, play with it, or just give it the evil eye?

I usually don't go for "cute" but I would have bought that collection of rabbits!

The 1968 photo is wonderful and I love that look on your face, as if to say, "What does HE have?"

    1. Hi Mitchell,Miss Kitty just sniffed it for a bit, then ignored it. She does look like she is giving it the evil eye!
I am not a "cute" person either, but I picked them up and looked at the name "Fitz and Floyd" and knew they were a good quality ceramic. And yes they are cute!
I probably was looking at what my brother had! My parents were pretty careful to always give us exactly what the other had. They did not want to listen to "But _______ got more than me!"
      Have great week in Spain!

  21. I too had a hankering to snap photos of my neighborhood yesterday; flowers, bark, ivy...stuff like that. Our town is filled with old houses with cool architecture, and we are celebrating our 180th anniversary. I am heavy into discovering the history of our house; some very interesting information is coming up.
