"Funny Face"

What an up and down week for weather! One day we are in shorts and t-shirts, a couple days later we are back to jackets with hats and mitts.
The sun hasn't made many appearances either. But the trees continue to come out and the tulips are blooming.
This pair continue to visit the feeders on a regular basis. I hope they bring their baby too.
I really am going through bird food! I went to fill the feeders yesterday and the bag was almost empty. When I won the photo contest from the bird seed company awhile back they sent me coupons for free bird food. I am making good use of them!
I guess he didn't like the selection on the deck.
Miss Kitty and one of her admirers Smokey.
Chuck and I have been helping Janice and Keith move into their home. They are going from a three level house to a two level one so much to get rid of. A massive yard sale is planned for this weekend.
Our one day of heat! I think it was in the 80's. The poor black squirrel laid in the tree for quite a time.
Sunday was a busy painting day. One of the long walls in the kitchen eating area was done and the front door also was painted. Later on in the afternoon a spider was spotted on the ceiling. Myself,  I would not worry about it as it was so high up. Not so Chuck! Every extension pipe we had for the vacuum was found and he perched on the top step of the ladder.
You can see how high up it was here!
An update on "the new guy" His name is Cortes. While we were helping Janice move in her hubby Keith found his collar in the lawn. I took it home and later called the number. I spoke to Cortes' Mom, very nice lady, and found out his situation. He has many feline and canine brothers and sisters, all rescues like him. He even has a twin sister Isabella. All are fixed so no repopulating the neighbourhood. He desperately wants to come inside our home but I can't have any more inside visitors. Cortes gets along with everyone, I even see him hanging around with Smokey and Punkin.
He has an endless appetite and will eat anything. But that face! Such a sweet cat and a real chatter.

Thanks for all your kind wishes for my Mum. She is home from the hospital and doing o.k. She is receiving daily nursing care for now and hopefully this will be enough. None of us want to see her go to a nursing home but it may be the inevitable outcome.

Take care and have a good week.
Robin

  1. Good Morning, Robin. Thank you for the update on your Mum. Thankful she is home and has nursing care. I enjoyed the sweet kitty pics and the birds are so beautiful. Like you, I would have let the spider "go" but my husband loves any excuse to pull out the rickety step ladder! lol

  2. p.s. when I saw your post title, I started singing "funny face, I love you" in my mind. Just googled it and it was Donna Fargo that I remember singing that song! lol
We had heavy rain yesterday and then when the skies cleared, it seemed so much cooler. Hard to know how to dress!

    1. Good morning Mildred, what is it about men and ladders? Chuck uses one quite often at work being an electrician, you would think he has enough of them!
We ended up getting quite a bit of rain last night. The water is just standing on the lawns and fields.
      Have a good day!

  3. Cortes is such a cute kitty and I love his name! I love the sky in your second shot...the squirrels are all cute. I bet the black one does feel the heat more than the others...when I worked at the orchard I had the white painter's pants I wore in summer, and could definitely feel a difference between them and just regular blue denim jeans.

Oh, that is a gread shot of the red-winged blackbird!

    1. Hi Rose, Cortes is a handsome fellow.
I know working in the orchards is very hot work in the summer. My grandparents had a farm and picking peaches in July was always very hot!
      Glad you enjoyed the photos!

  4. I think my favourite pic is of Mr (or Ms) Stretchy Squirrel. :-D

Chuck was nuts. I have two spiders downstairs somewhere, saw them on the ceiling a couple of days ago but left them till they're within easy reach. I'll try and put them outside, though. I used to do that, then was flushing or otherwise disposing of them, but I saw someone's comment on FB (regarding rescuing spiders) that she hoped if she ever were somewhere she shouldn't be that she would be shown mercy. So I've started catching them and putting them outside again, now that it's warm enough that they won't freeze. But oh, I do hate spiders, they give me the willies! *shudder*

Cortes is a handsome young mancat, hope I get to meet him! :-)

Continued purrs and purrayers to your mum, I hope she'll be able to stay at home with increased care.

    1. Hi Kim, I think it was a female squirrel if I remember correctly.
I try to put out spiders too but they sure aren't easy to catch! I don't mind them at all.
I would think over the two days you are here you will meet lots of the cat gang!
      Talk soon!

  5. Silly squirrels! They will do anything for a bite of food. I'm like you and would have not bothered with that spider, but my husband is like Chuck. He would not have given up until that spider was gone. He drives me crazy with things like that. :)

    1. Hi Henny, the squirrels especially the females at this time of year will do anything for food!
Chuck will not rest if there is a spider in the house. I wouldn't want my house overrun with them but a few don't hurt! ; )
      Have a good day!

    1. Hi Sandra, I heard you are so hot and humid! Yes, the black squirrels suffer so much more in the heat if they can't get out of the sun. Poor things!
Enjoy your day, hope you get some rain soon. I would love to send you some of ours!

Hopefully the help my Mum is receiving will be enough to allow her to stay home.
      Be well!

    1. Hi Karen, glad you enjoyed the squirrel photo too.
Our entrance, living room and dining room have vaulted ceilings. It was interesting when we painted last Fall. Luckily Chuck doesn't mind heights and happily painted way up high!
      Have a good day.

  14. I love the color of the tree in that second photo. It seems to really pop against that dark sky. That squirrel is too funny!

I wish Cortes' mom would keep him indoors where it's safe. He sure is a cutie.

I'm terrified of spiders and even I wouldn't insist my hubby go to the lengths Chuck did! That's dedication!

I'm sorry about your mom. That is worrisome. I'm glad she's home now and hope she won't need nursing care.

    1. I like the colour contrast in the sky/tree photo too.
I too wish all the cat owners here would keep their pets inside. I have never lived in a neighbourhood where so many cats are let out to roam. There is hardly any traffic here , that is the problem I think. Pet owners assume it is very safe.
Spiders drive Chuck nuts! I don't care, it could have stayed there!
Thanks for your kind words about my Mum. Hopefully she can spend the rest of her days at home.
      Take care.

  15. The weather really is so unpredictable. Yesterday was chilly, today nice and warm ( maybe 20C) but tomorrow its back to rain with Thursday to reach the 20's again.
Funny squirrel all stretched out like that. We see squirrels jumping from one tall pine to another in the back of our place. I cannot believe they don't fall.At least I've never seen one fall.
Chuck was taking a chance when he insisted on getting that spider. I'm glad he didn't lose his balance and fall!

    1. Hi Granny Marigold, I noticed your weather has been up and down too. We wore hat and mitts for our walk at 6:00am today.
In our last home we had 100 foot high trees. Sadly one day we did find a squirrel dead at the base of one of them. We assume it fell.
I was clutching Chuck's legs as he was sucking up the spider. He practically lives on a ladder some days at work but he does take chances sometimes!
      Have a good day!

  19. Glad to hear your mom is doing well. Loved your pics. Esp. the black squirrels, we just don't have those here in TN. But I can see why you are going through the bird feed....haha, that one was going to stretch a mile for that feed. That is one reason why I stopped feeding birds, it was bring way to many squirrels to the house, and when they moved into the attic of the house I had to stop feeding. Loving the face of the sweet kitty.

    1. Hi Pam, I find that so interesting that not too many of you have black squirrels. I know how destructive they can be. They got into our attic too in the little house we lived in when we first were married. No fun getting them out!

  21. Glad your mum is doing well. Still sending purrs and prayers. We've had a squirrel this week eating everything in all our bird feeders. He's a cheeky little guy too and will tap his paws and make noises at us if he's interrupted! It's sunny and 80 here today so windows are open and sunpuddling napping has commenced! Poor Cortes. Hope he finds a furever home where he can get the attention he deserves!

  23. Hello, Robin, I can see why you won the photo contest! Your bird images are terrific! What a beautiful brood you have! And that Cortes -- oh my! He looks like a slightly grayer version of my Lizzie who is a bit darker (and with a moustache!). Such sweet faces, they make my heart sing! I don't know which part of Ontario you are in but over here in mid-Michigan we had that 80 degree day, too -- and the next day the temp took a big dive! I'm so eager for consistent weather!

Meanwhile, thank you so much for coming by The Marmelade Gypsy and leaving such a kind comment. I'm sure you are like me -- sending good wishes to our friend Deb for Annie's full recovery. All the best, jeanie
