"Here Comes The Rain Again"

That song title seems to be on our minds this last month or so.
Yes, it certainly has rained almost every day. The waters are still raising and more rain is forecast. Look at the gardens and grass! I've never seen them this lush.
Notice the log in the garden? When Kim was visiting we walked along many creeks. I spotted this log in the water and fished it out. Thought it would look good in the garden and be a lovely remembrance of her trip.
It stopped raining early one morning so I popped out and took a few photos.
I brought this clump of hens and chickens from out last home. Love the colour!
Yesterday it was the annual yard sale in one of our "active lifestyle communities".  The sale was a go rain or shine as everyone has garages. The forecast was for sun and cloud but of course when I got up at 6:00 it was raining! Janice came by at 8:00 and we headed out leaving Chuck at home to paint trim. It drizzled pretty well the two hours we were there but it seemed to keep the crowds away. Janice found a three drawer tall dresser she was looking for to hold linens in her kitchen within the first ten minutes. (more on their move in a minute) I found Zeus! That is what I call him anyway. He is chipped a bit on one side but I think he is magnificent. We had parked the car near the entrance of the neighbourhood and walked in so I carried him for over an hour. Heavy but he is worth it. He will be hung up outside on one of the fences.
We were pooping out so we headed back to the car and as we were pulling away Janice spotted a few more sales on another street. Jackpot! I have been looking for some concrete planters for either side of the garage door. A lovely couple had 2 for $20.00. Sold! Janice and I quickly came home and got her SUV as my little car would not hold her newly acquired dresser and the concrete pots. Chuck scrubbed them up and we headed out to the nursery to purchase plants. I put Russian Sage in the back, red Zinnias in the middle and alyssum in the front to spill over.
Janice and Keith got moved in on Thursday in the pouring rain. Everything went fine and they are settling in. Their dog Griffy adjusted quickly and their cat Kitty is fine too.
A dry day!
Snowball came by a few days ago. You can see her fur is growing in on the side of her face where it had been shaved. She was combed and seemed to have some weight on her. Her owners finally seem to be taking care of her. I wish she would have a collar!
Chuck and I were walking by a construction site earlier in the Spring and I spotted this rock. It looks like it has tumbled around for a while. Perfect for the garden!
The sun is shining today so we plan to make the most of it.

Have a wonderful day!
Robin

  1. A nice post, Robin. I love the sweet cat pictures. We thought we were in for a few sunny days, but we had thunderstorms during the night. Your yard/flowers look so pretty. I love Zeus and the planters. What a great find the rock is for your garden. Enjoy the sunshine today.

    1. Hi Mildred, so glad you enjoyed the post. It has most of my favourite things in it! We enjoyed a very sunny, warm Sunday and woke up to pouring rain this morning. Goodness, I hope this isn't how it is going to be all Summer.
      Hope your weather is better!

  2. Lovely finds from the garage sale. I see you love wood and rock treasures for the garden too. We saw a piece of driftwood at the Wellington beach yesterday but it was a bit big and way too wet to haul home. I have lots of treasures from the beaches in British Columbia.

    1. Hi Linda, Janice and I did luck out at the garage sales! The rain kept people away first thing. As we were leaving around 10:00 the rain had stopped so people were coming in then.
Too bad the driftwood was so heavy! I struggled with my small piece but I didn't want to leave it behind. I was rather dirty by the time we got home with it.
      Take care.

I hope you had a good weekend too.

    1. Hi Dee, Janice and I are both very happy with our yard sale finds. Chuck hung Zeus up on the fence outside the kitchen window above the little courtyard where I hang my wash. Maybe he can stop the birds from pooping on our wash!
      Take care!

  6. I would have snapped up Zeus in a heartbeat! It was supposed to rain here all day today. The sun came out and it was beautiful. COLD and WINDY but beautiful. Tomorrow was supposed to be rainy and possibly even rainy and snowy Tuesday. Maybe more sunshine!?!

    1. Hi Mitchell, Zeus' beard and moustache are similar to yours! His are rather wild though, yours are beautifully trimmed!
I can only imagine how beautiful it is. I hope it warms up for you. A friend of ours is up in Alert working at the Military base up there. She phoned the other day and said it was -9 and snowing. Too cold for me!
      Be well!

  7. those two planters are a real deal, maybe a steal. they are expensive in the stores. I would have bought them to and I love Zeus.. he looks like my hubby... that squirrel on the seed house is just beautiful and cute. sounds like you had a fun day even in the drizzle. if we could get a few rainy days I would go out in it to

    1. Hi Sandra, I had been pricing concrete planters at the garden centres and they were too pricey. If Janice had not turned her head and saw these three yard sales I would have missed out on them. When we went back to pick them up the gentleman stated he had to guard them as a bunch more people wanted to buy them.
Zeus does look like Bob, how funny!
I hope you get rain soon!

  8. Nice log! I think that's what I need to focus on with my gardens now... since there's no more room for plants.

I love Zeus too... yes, i definitely need more garden decorations. (Though he's got what looks like a shell crown... maybe he's Poseidon?)

Great planters too! You did really well!

I have some hens and chicks just like yours. I got some new varieties this year too. I just love them

    1. Hi Valerie, I would love another log....hmmmm..,maybe another trip to Proctor Park to have a nose around the creeks is in the cards!
Yes, you are probably right, it is Poseidon or Neptune but Zeus just stuck in my head when I looked at him.
I was very lucky to come across the planters after years of wishing for them. I would not pay the price they want in garden centres.
Hens and chicks are wonderful. So tough and they spread wonderfully.
      Have a good week!

  9. I spied your log even before I read the text! It looks great there. And Zeus is suitably scowly (is that a word?), as befits an old, top god.

Those planters were an awesome bargain...seriously, no one can shop the way you can. I used to think Lynn was good at thrift shopping, but you take top marks, Robin.

Nice to see Snowball and Miss Kitty...and the bluejay! Apparently word gets out when I'm there that a crazy middle-aged lady with a camera is around (other than you -- lol) and all the interesting birds disappear. :-P

    1. Hi Kim, I do like my log and it was worth it getting a little dirty bringing it home. I would like another one!😜
Zeus (or Neptune) is nicely scowly, I look out at him as I do the dishes.
I just seem to be having good luck thrift shopping lately, now I've jinxed it! The planters are my best bargain so far.
The blue jay was here so fleetingly I only managed to get a few photos. The grackles really have taken over the feeders.
Hopefully you will see more interesting birds on your next trip!
      See you Sunday!

We have had a lot of rain this month as well with more for the coming week.
No flooding where we are though.
You forns some good things in the sales :)
We also wish people would take good care of their pets. We stay indoors :)

All of eastern North America seems to be drenched with rain. As I type this it is pouring rain.
We did luck out at the yard sales. I was purposely looking for garden items and I think I succeed!
Let's hope we all see the sun soon.

  11. Ohhhhh I LOVE Zeus!

Or maybe Poseidon? He has something shell like, over his head. Poseidon was one of the Twelve Olympians in ancient Greek religion and myth. He was god of the Sea and other waters.

Or Neptune? Neptune was the god of freshwater and the sea in Roman religion. He is the counterpart of the Greek god Poseidon.

    1. Hi Granny Marigold, the concencus is that Zeus is Neptune or Poseidon but Zeus just came into my head when I saw him. Whoever he is he sits on my fence and I love looking at him.
The hens and chicks came from a neighbour down the street in our old neighbourhood. She put a number of plants at her curb and I took several. Most of the plants we have planted here have been given to us. Yesterday I received a few more from Janice. I have run out of room. I want to put in a few annuals this week but won't need nearly as many as I thought.
      Have a wonderful week!

  15. Great yard sale finds there! We stop at a lot of street sales too, and there are always crazy boxes of free stuff in front of people's houses. Lots of books and old VCR tapes! We had a few days of sunshine here, but then it went into summer fog mode right away. Sure hope the sun makes it out for you and me!

    1. Hi Robin, we were very lucky finding what we did! We stop at yard sales occasionally but the last few years Saturday mornings, when we traditionally have them here, seem to be taken up with errands and chores. Maybe when Chuck fully retires we will have the time.
We lived in Nova Scotia for four years, we definitely had fog season there too!

We were very lucky to find the great bargains. I started using rocks at our last house because the gardens were so huge I needed to fill up some space and couldn't afford to spend tons of money on plants. Now I find I just love to decorate the gardens with natural items.
