"Sittin' On The Dock Of The Bay"

Another crazy few days of weather. The rain has been torrential when it comes. Our Bay is at a 100 year high. These docks usually are quite a bit above the water. We went down after the storm and the water was still lapping up over it. I walked to the end and it was very rocky.
Beyond a few ducks this was the only other critter out on the water.
We walked down to Butler Creek Wednesday after work. It was a gorgeous day, too nice to stay inside. The water had risen up to the far left in the photo but thankfully has started to recede.
The birds enjoy this old tree trunk.
So clear and very shallow in this section.
Beautiful plants along the waters edge. Someone planted daffodils, how nice!
This is a broken branch of a sumac. It is just laying there and still has enough moisture to bloom.
Ferns, ferns, ferns everywhere!
Back at home the bird feeders are busy as ever. Janice gave me a bird feeder that had been left at her new house so I hung it up. I will see how long it takes to get some business.
Some squirrels love the dried cranberries, others won't touch them. This little guy ate quite a few.
Some neighbours flowers. I don't know what these ones are called....
These I do know are flocks, aren't they????

It looks like we are in for four straight days of rain. The gardens are so saturated as are the lawns. I have family members who are farmers and they stated there is no way they can plant anytime soon, too wet!

Have a wonderful weekend!
Robin

    1. Hi Sandra, it is now Saturday morning and the rain continues! So sorry you are so dry. What a wacky world we live in.
      Glad you enjoyed the photos.
      Take care.

  2. Wonderful photos, especially of that squirrel. :-)

Wow, the water IS high! I know that parts of Lemoine Point have been blocked off, saw that last week on the news, because of the water levels and erosion. I hope it's not going to be like this all spring and summer. One extreme to another.

However, all the rain certainly makes the flowers and trees just pop -- lots of glorious colour now!

Take care, have a good weekend and I hope all goes well re: visiting your mum. Hugs!

    1. Hi Kim, the flooding is incredible! In Belleville they have had to close some roads and all the waterfront trails.
Yes, there bright side of this all is the gardens are growing very well. Everything Merv gave me is sprouting up like crazy.
I emailed you about our trip to Mum's.
      See you soon!

Hope you have a good weekend!

    1. Hi Rose, I don't know that I am brave, maybe fool-hardy! Glad your rain finally let up, ours still hasn't.
I have forgotten the name of the bird. It will hit me probably at three o'clock in the morning!
Hope you and Roger have a good weekend!

    1. Hi Valerie, I heard you are having the same lovely weather. I have a cousin that doesn't live too far from you. He planted his tomatoes a couple weeks ago as he supplies a few stores over the summer and thought he would get the jump on everyone else. I will have to find out how they are doing in all this rain.
      Have a good day.

  7. We have had quite a bit of rain in the last few weeks, but are in a dry spell at the moment... at least for a few days. Love your photos. All the blossoms really speak of spring! I need to go see if sumac is blooming here!

  8. Sorry for all your rain. We are lucky, to have gentle rains. Very lucky, from the looks of your photos.

But all your photos are beautiful, even in this not-so-perfect-photo weather. :-) That clear water one, is especially lovely... The rocks below....

    1. Hi Luna, Lucky you receiving the gentler rains. It has just been relentless here. We heard on the local radio station that our little town was providing sand bags for people who needed them!
I like the clear water photo too.
      Be well!

  9. I can empathize with the rain. Here in Quebec the water levels have risen so high that many homes and other buildings are flooded. We got a huge amount of rain in April and are due to get more. Your photos are absolutely gorgeous and refreshing! I love the striped head on the bird, too! Thank you so much for sharing.

    1. Hi Linda, I heard on the radio about the flooding in Montreal. Chuck remembers when he was growing up there how bad it was a few times. We all seem to have had a tremendous amount of rain.
Thank you for your kind words about my photos!
      Take care and stay dry!

    2. The water table was always so high in Gaspé that our leftover turnips and potatoes would float to the top of the cellar -- the water would be almost up to the top of the trap in the kitchen floor. One year we did have very bad flooding, and I think our neighbour, Elmer, took his canoe out in the fields, but maybe I'm dreaming that. LOL. I know Dad has or had old slides of the spring water that year.

Earlier today I saw a blurb on CBC or CTV News for donations for the flooding in Eastern Canada. :-(

    3. I can imagine it. My sister and her family lived for a time on a lake outside of Timmins. Every Spring the water would come within inches of their back door. Denis could fish off their back porch!

    1. We had such a drought here last Summer most of the leaves fell off the trees in July. Now this, it is nuts! I would love to be able to send some of the rain down south where they desperately need it.
Hope you and your crew enjoy the weekend!

Hope it stops raining for all of us soon.

  16. When we were stricken by a terrible drought in 2012, I made a solemn promise to never complain about rain again. Hubby told me I might live to regret that promise. :~/ You have some great photos from your recent high water walk. My favorite may be the one where the water is lapping at the top of the dock (even though, I would have never walked to its end.) But, I also really like the second photo...can't resist that beautiful white swan!

    1. Hi Chip Butter, you know I probably said the same thing last Summer during our drought. One of the few good things with all this rain, peoples wells are being replenished.
Probably not the smartest thing I did walking to the end of the dock. I can't swim a stroke! But Chuck is an excellent swimmer so I knew he would save me. ; )
      Glad you enjoyed the photos!

  17. Isn't the weather just so weird? Some are in the middle of drought and you and I live in areas where, this year at least, get far more rain than we need or in some cases, can even cope with.
I think we've gotten half of May's rainfall in the first week!
I don't think I would have been brave enough to walk to the end of that dock!!
Here's hoping for some sunshine soon! Have a good weekend.

    1. Hi Granny Marigold, this has been the strangest year for weather world-wide.
We just heard we had May's normal rainfall for the whole month in the first few days!
Not the smartest thing walking to the end of the dock but I just had to see!
Hoping for sunshine for you too.
      Take care.

    2. Chiming in again...In April we had our month's rainfall in just the first couple of days, now May too. I figure it's going to be the coldest and wettest spring and summer and record all because I had central air installed. So everyone can blame me. :-P

  20. Good morning! That water looks scary! It's so high. I love the pebbles in the shallow water, and I love all the flowers. I see someone mentioned the last photo was phlox. I have some of that in my garden at Jason's house -- when the deer don't pull it out and eat it. In my old garden, I had tons of it hanging over the rock retainer walls. So pretty. :) Happy Tuesday. xo Lynn
