"The Snail Is Fast"

NOT!! On our walk on Sunday we came across a couple snails. Both had their shells on their backs slowly making their way across the sidewalk about three feet apart. The shell just struck me as so beautiful.
Here is Zeus/Posiedon/ Neptune in all his glory. I hung him in the little courtyard where I hang my wash. Maybe he will stop the birds from pooping on the wash!
Best I could do Monday as it was so dreary. The cardinal was singing his heart out though.
Here is our little baby Mourning Dove. She never seems to be far from the yard.
Sunday Janice and I went back to their old house to dig up some of her plants. We dug up a few but as they have been there 20+ years it was tough going. We only had a certain amount of time and Janice really wanted this particular hosta but she had to remove all her curtains. I sent her in the house to do that and I tackled the hosta. Twenty minutes. a bloody elbow and smashed finger it was out! For my troubles Janice gave me half of it and a few homemade oatmeal coconut cookies (yum) and juice.
So they are all moved out and the deal is done today. They officially are residents of Brighton!
Occasionally we get a couple seagulls eating the peanuts I put out for the other critters. They are pretty bold and don't fly away until I get very close.
Well lady, what are you waiting for??
Have you ever looked closely at Gull feet and legs? I haven't. Very interesting looking.
The Gull was not impressed with my interest.
Momma Robin was busily feeding one of her young. She's looking a little crabby!
The baby waited impatiently in one of the gardens.
The sun was out for quite awhile yesterday. So much so I hung out wash. We received 4 inches of rain just over the last few days.  We haven't been down to the Bay in the last few days but I know Presquile Park had to close due to the flooding. The weather forecast is for a chance of showers every day until Saturday. Cripes!!!

I am off to spend the day with my friend Norma today. She lives across the street from one of our former homes. I find it hard sometimes to visit as the current owner of our old home does not take very good care of it. Oh well, it isn't our home any longer!

Take care and enjoy your day!
Robin

      Have a good day!

  2. The gull shots, particularly the close up and the feet, are spectacular. Worth posting on the Weather Channel or elsewhere, Robin.

The little robin is cute, isn't it? Mom has to work hard to feed him/her, I'm sure.

Glad you got part of the hosta for yourself after all the blood, sweat and tears! :-P

Have a lovely day with Norma, I hope things go well. I'm off for a re-check with the dermatologist (for 9 AM), then will be back to the office for a "fun" day of spreadsheets. LOL.

    1. Hi Kim, just pure luck getting the close ups of the gull. They are so bold I could get quite close and the old camera decided to function!
The little Robin spent a couple afternoons in one of the gardens as momma dashed around and collected up worms. Where do they put it all?
I was using some not very lady-like language by the time I finally wrestled out the hosta. On the plus side it seems to have taken in the garden.
Hope you have a nice day!

  3. Hi Robin! Oh, I love your bird photos. The gulls DO have interesting legs and feet. Their eyes are pretty, too.
We have robins eating our worms and then the magpies come in and overpower the robbies. I don't like magpies and all their racket.
I hope you aren't too sad today when you see your former home. I find that disturbing, too.
    Have a great day, Robin!

    1. Hi Pom Pom, so glad you enjoyed the photos! I didn't realize the gulls feet and legs were so scaly looking.
We don't have magpies here so I had to look them up. Too bad, they sound like our grackles, rather like a bully in a schoolyard!
      Take care!

    1. Hi Eileen, the gull sat about five feet away from me so it was very easy to take a few close ups. He posed prettily for me!
The hosta is wonderful , I do love them. I don't want to have to wrestle another one out though!
      Be well!

  6. Hello Robin, so much to see here, and I love everything in your photos! I have indeed looked very closely at the webbed feet of seagulls, because I see them very often here in Montreal! I love my long nature walks, especially by the water, so I see them there, but I also see them around McDonald's restaurants. LOL! It seems that they love the fries! :) Thank you so much for sharing, I so enjoy your photos!

    1. Hi Linda, so glad you enjoyed the photos! I haven't until now looked closely at gull feet. Always wary around them, don't want to get pooped on! Yes, they do seem to hang around all the fast food restaurants.
      Take care!

    1. Hi Joni, thanks for your kind words. The flooding here this year is incredible. Presquile Park is a huge park with so many different attractions. To close it was not something done lightly. They have hundreds(?) of camping spots within the park and many reserved from May until October which of course had to be cancelled. Hopefully the flooding starts to ease.
      Have a good day!

  8. Oh yeah, Zeus looks great! My yard is shady, so I've got hostas growing all over the place, and have asked for donations from friends and relatives. And as they say, "Home is where you hang your hat"

    1. Hi Vicki, glad you like Zeus, I sure do!
Our last home was very shady but this home has all sorts of lighting conditions. Luckily I found a spot for the hosta under a small bush/tree.
I have been so blessed to have such wonderful neighbours generously give us so many plants. We would have paid for all new plants but my frugal hearts sings at receiving all these wonderful gifts!
      Take care!

  9. Oh yes, Zeus/Posiedon/ Neptune will surely stop the birds from pooping on your wash!!!!! -gigggles-

He is magnificent! I am completely smitten. Want one! :-))))

Glad the move is final and complete. And that you got her Hosta out! Bloodied though you were. :-) A good pal, you are!!!!

Sad when an old home, is not kept up, that way you did. -sigh- Maybe you can not look, as much as possible. :-)

Chuck was in the military for 31 years so we have lived in a few places. One we had to leave in January as we received a quick posting. I had to leave rhubarb that came from my grandparents house and raspberries from my parents house. It broke my heart! Silky to get attached to plants but I am so sentimental.
Hope all is well in Trout Towne!

The hosta appears to have taken in our garden. I don't know how well Janice's will do as she put it in the sun at the front of her house.

It was definitely a wrestling match getting the hosta out. There were probably eight more just like it but there was no way I would be able to get them out!

The baby dove is so sweet. I feel bad she is so tiny and on her own. We have a hawk in the area and I often worry about the little dove.
I love sun's and have two hanging in the yard. Just from the dollar store!
Hope Roger is doing better. You both are in my thoughts.

  15. Wishing you a bit more sunshine ... and a lot less flooding. I have mixed feelings about visiting old homes. Our house in Connecticut is loved and stunning now. It makes me feel good. Our house in San Diego is well-cared for, but the current owners don't have MY aesthetic. The front gardens are blah and trimmed to within an inch of their life.

    1. Hi Mitchell, we finally have had two days of sun! I spent three hours outside yesterday planting and weeding, it was lovely.
I don't care for seeing my old homes. I have seen photos of your home in Connecticut, it is beautiful! Sadly when I went to see my friend Wednesday afternoon I couldn't say the same thing about our former home. I spent I can't think how many hours over 10 years on the gardens and they now are an overgrown mess. It was so awful to see.
When we moved here the gardens were in quite a state. I have enjoyed redoing them and just love them!
      Have a good weekend!

  18. Visiting someone by an old home would be hard for me to do too. In fact, I try to avoid visiting any old home of mine. Although sometimes I hear stories about them, like the one about taking all the peonies bushes out of the front yard and covering the garden bed with cement... ugh. I worked so hard on those!

Anyway, I'm glad you had a good time with your friend, Kim. The bird photos are excellent as always and I love Zeus :)

    1. Hi Rue, it was hard to see our old home and how it is being taken care of now which isn't very well. I tend to put gardens everywhere and at our old home in Nova Scotia a neighbour mentioned the new owners grassed over them all! I understand your frustration at all the hard work you put into your gardens.
Kim and I had a fantastic time. She hopefully is coming back in July!

    1. Hi Granny Marigold, I do love the two colour hosta's. I just read somewhere that the two colour ones can stand the sun better than the single ones. The spot I put it in is pretty shaded except for a bit in the morning. Being our first Spring here I am trying to keep an eye on what spots are shady and sunny in the yard.
I had a nice time with my friend. She isn't a gardener and inherited quite a few gardens when they purchased their home 4 years ago. I have helped her in the past but not living in the same town now it makes it harder.
We have had two days of sun now, it's been lovely.
