"Touch The Sky"

Out the computer room window we can see the night sky. A few nights ago it was so pretty.
We went for our walk this morning under a clear, star-filled sky. An hour later the clouds started to creep in. This is looking out over Lake Ontario. We are supposed to get some rain starting this afternoon.
If you recall I mentioned in my last post this past weekend was AppleFest. We had a great time. Janice and I went to the street fair in the morning leaving Chuck at home to paint one of the bathrooms. I don't think he was unhappy not going! The street fair was packed. I couldn't take any photos. After lunch we all headed over to the car show. So many great cars. This" Dukes of Hazzard" replica car was signed under the hood by the gentleman who portrayed "Cooter".
Chuck checking out this old beast. I guess it is popular now to have the bodies of the old cars to look like they were just pulled out of a barn or field. We saw a number of cars that looked like this.
A local D.J. did a show from the car show. We do listen to his daily show so we went up and introduced ourselves. We chatted for a few minutes and as we were leaving he handed us a gift certificate for a nice restaurant. Janice and I will do a girl's lunch with it one day soon.
Janice and Chuck peeking inside this fantastic car. We had absolutely perfect weather on Saturday. Sunny and a little cool.
Sunday Chuck and I walked up to one of the local museums. Somebody (me) thought they were open for tours but I was wrong. It is a home preserved and furnished as it would have been when it was built.  The 1850's I think! Chuck is looking out over part of the original farm which is now a conservation area. On the right is a barn where many times a year plays are performed.
This is the house from the front. It sits high up on a hill. If you looked out the windows at the top of the house you could see Lake Ontario.
This is the road leading away from the house. So pretty. I want to go back in a few weeks when the leaves are changing and take a walk down it.
I assume this is a bathtub. It must have been quite a job filling and emptying it in the old days!
Sweet Pea enjoying one of his snacks. According to a neighbour he is owned by someone. He just enjoys visiting. I still don't know his real name.
Here is a bit better photo of one of the other cats that visits. I keep a bowl of water out on the deck for critters to drink out of and I have seen this cat there quite often.

The only problem with having so many cats around is it means we don't get many birds. I do miss the birds but hopefully as the weather turns cooler the birds will come back to the feeders.

We are continuing to clean out our gardens. Sunday afternoon we were trying to yank out three bushes from one of the side gardens. It took us around forty minutes to dig one out. Just as we were starting on the second one an elderly gentleman pulled up in his minivan. He hopped out and asked us if we needed a hand. He was on his way to help his son, who lives around the corner, pull out some trees. He hooked up a rope to his trailer hitch and pulled both bushes out in ten minutes. He then offered to take them away as he was going to the dump afterwards. How kind! Our gardening neighbour has set aside a number of plants from his garden for me and is anxious to get them planted in our garden. Goodness, people have been so kind to us since we moved here.

We had a wonderful weekend and we have a visit from Kim to look forward to shortly. Can't wait!

Have a good week everyone.
Take care.
Robin

  1. AppleFest looks like it was great fun indeed! The old cars are great, though I didn't know it the "in" thing to have them look beat up! The ones I see around town, if a car show is taking place, looks absolutely pristine to me.

What a great house! It'll be neat when you can take a tour of it. I have to say, I'm happy to have indoor plumbing and electricity and all our modern conveniences, though. However, I'd take the land in a heartbeat! :-)

Hmm, fewer birds perhaps, and probably fewer rodents too!

And how wonderful that everyone has been so kind and helpful...a bit of a change from at least some of your old neighbours. LOL.

    1. This is the first time I have seen "beat up" cars at an auto show. It is funny how styles change.
The land surrounding the old house was beautiful. Across the road were houses built maybe in the 1960's. Imagine looking at that house everyday!
This neighbourhood is so different from our previous one. Everyone knows each other and looks after each other. I guess it helps it is a small street so you can know all your neighbours.

  2. I've seen those beat up cars around too.
Sounds like you had a great day out.
The house is grand looking and I'd love to see the inside.
You need our tractor to get those bushes out right quick. Too bad it is such a far commute or Ken would help. : )

    1. We had a great weekend Karen. Always nice to spend time with friends and with nature. I am hoping at Christmas they will have tours of the old house. I believe they do it as a fundraiser. We would have loved your help with the bushes!

  3. You sure are blessed with nice neighbours.
Too bad you couldn't tour that lovely house but as you say, maybe at Christmas. Did you by any chance go up and try the door?

    1. We really are blessed!
The house was definitely closed but I did peek in the windows. The first window I looked in was the kitchen and there was a sweater on the back of a chair and a dress laying on the table. It looked like someone had just stepped away for a moment. The furniture was incredible, not fancy but just so perfect for the setting. I can't wait to see the rest of the house!

  6. He is gorgeous. I was sitting at my kitchen table emailing a friend this morning and a large, white fluffy cat was peering in at me through the screen door. Our water bowl gets lots of use!
If I do tour the house I will take lots of photos don't worry!

  7. Looms like you are settling in very nicely! So glad for the nice neighbors-- nice blessing there! The festival sounded fun and those car shows are fun to look around-- we spot them here quite frequently especially in the fall-- some of those old cars are so amazing. That house looks so interesting--- hope you get to tour it-- if you do i hope they allow photos and you will share them with us?

  8. It sounds like you live in such a friendly community, it's a shame more places aren't like that. My husband would be envious of your view, just right for setting up his telescope without lots of light pollution xx

    1. Hi Cheryl, we are very blessed to live here. Everyday someone is kind in some way to us.
I am loving the view. I am sure the neighbours think I am crackers. I love to just go outside at night and look up at the sky. They must wonder what I am doing!
