"This Little Bird"

I do love these Red Breasted Nuthatches! I read a great description recently- "The adult has blue-grey upper parts and cinnamon underpants" Love it!
We continue to have mostly mild weather with a couple days of cool. The Cardinals are singing their hearts out up in the trees.
Many cat visits over the last few days. I managed to get Sweet Pea to eat out of a bowl on a few occasions.
Sorry, totally blurry but I loved the expression of Miss Kitty's face. She and Punkin are hanging around together again but I'm not seeing the constant hot pursuing that Punkin was doing a couple weeks ago. They just show up together and ask for a meal. I hope to get a clearer photo!
We had a bit of snow one day last week and I walked over to the grocery store. It was warming up and very foggy. I popped into the apple orchard to get a few photos. Looks like someone else had the same idea.
Again not the best photo but Snowball wiggles around so much it is hard to get a clear one. She just loves Chuck!
Grackles are back! I was so surprised to see a small flock of them a few days ago. Last year I didn't see them until March 16.
Beautiful sunrise on the weekend. We had received a dusting of snow but it shortly melted when the sun came up.
So many flocks of geese too.
Here is a new member of the menagerie! Taken through the screen door as I didn't want to startle him. Usually I only see him at night but he came during the day yesterday. The name Smokey popped into my head when I saw him.
I walked through the gardens to see if anything was coming up. The sedum's are up…….
……...along with whatever this is!
More sedum's………...
……………and snowdrop's. As this is our first Spring in the house it will be interesting to see what plants we have.

Just a hodgepodge of photos today. We've stayed home the past few days painting the master bath and going for long walks enjoying the Spring-like weather.

As I type this I can hear Robin's chirping and the Cardinal singing too. Lovely!

I so appreciate all the wonderful comments everyone has been leaving. You all are so kind!💗

Have a wonderful week!
Robin🐦

  1. Beautiful photos as always, I love how you've captured the sunset. Smokey is a lovely colour, so fluffy as well. Snowdrops are amongst my favourite, letting us know Spring isn't too far away xx

    1. Hi Cheryl, thanks so much! I am really spoiled in this house being able to get such wonderful sunrise and sunset photos.
I was so surprised to see Smokey out during the day. He is very skittish so I don't think I will be petting him anytime soon.
I am listening as I type this to all sorts of birds chirping. I hope Spring isn't too far off although we are supposed to turn colder later in the week.
      Have a good day!

  2. I saw snowdrops on Sunday, snapped a pic, could hardly believe any were up in February. Mind you, we're back down to normal (and below) temps come Thursday. Just as well, too warm right now isn't good, doesn't bode well for spring/summer.

Oh, all those cats, and now Smokey too. Bless you for feeding them all and caring so much. ♥

Love the foggy photo, I think it's my favourite. Fog always lends itself to atmospheric shots. :-)

Enjoy the sunshine before the rain sets in!

    1. Hi Kim, I heard we are supposed to be colder by the end of the week. I want to get out today and enjoy the sun!
Miss Kitty and Sweet Pea have already been by for their breakfast. Yesterday was very busy here just before supper. Chuck was on the phone, I was trying to make supper and two kitties were standing outside waiting for their supper. I know, I am nuts!
I wanted to go farther into the apple orchard but I only had sneakers on. Wish I had worn boots!
      Have a good day Kim!

    1. Hi Eileen, glad you enjoyed the photos! I just arrived home from my walk where I saw Red Winged Blackbirds. That usually to me is a sure sign Spring is here but I wonder this year. It is so early.
      Have a great day!

  4. Gee, now I want a pair of cinnamon underpants! LOL! Our snowdrops are up too; was trying to take some photos, plus some blue sky. When it's warm, I feel the outside cats canned food, but then it dips down below freezing, and they get kibble.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I laughed at the cinnamon underpants! What a great description!
I leave kibble out pretty well all the time. If I notice one of the cats at the door I will serve them wet food. Hard this time of year when usually it is too cold for wet food. I try to change the water frequently too so they have a chance of getting a drink. I saw poor Miss Kitty drinking the salty water on the side of the road on a cold day. Yuck!
Hope you are having a good day!

Hope you all are having a great day too!

This time of year, is a bit iffy. Hate to see any blooming, where we live. Know winter is not done with us yet. Etc. Etc. Etc.

March may be coming tomorrow, but it is no guarantee....

Happy Eve of March, to you!

    1. Hi Luna, Snowball is such a wiggler. She always is so happy to see Chuck.
I was listening to a garden show yesterday and the gentleman stated plants that are coming up this early should be fine if and when we return to the cold and snow. That was good to hear.
We are in for a day or two of rain here before a return to cooler weather.
Hope everything is good in your neck of the woods!

  10. The Snowdrops are so pretty and appear to be spreading. Mine do not spread at all but neither do they disappear over the winter. I would like to dig out a small clump and bring it indoors but the ground is frozen hard. I wonder how they can survive in solid earth? I'm not familiar with a Sedum that comes up red. Do you know which one it is?

We had yet another snowfall of several inches yesterday. Maybe turning the page on the calendar will bring nicer weather.

    1. You are so lucky to have flowers all winter! I can't imagine that.
Sorry I can't remember what sedum it is. Merv next door gave me a whole wheelbarrow full of perennials. I forgot 3/4's of the names of the plants!
I didn't hear you received snow yesterday. Oh too bad, I thought you were done with winter!
      Hope your snow melts quickly!

    1. Hi Mildred, we have a large window overlooking our backyard that allows me to get great bird photos. Living in our small town the highest building we have is three stories so I do have a mostly clear view for sunrises and sunsets. We have windows that face east and west so it makes it even easier.
      Have a great day!

    1. Hi Sandra, I do love nuthatches, what am I saying, I love all birds, but they are extra adorable being so small.
I was sitting and reading after breakfast when Chuck phoned me on his way to work. He saw the beautiful sunrise and phoned to tell me about it so I wouldn't miss it. He knows me so well!
I am assuming Miss Kitty is fixed as she was someone's pet. Apparently she has been hanging around the neighbourhood for a few years and no one has ever seen her with kittens.
      Take care!

  17. The robins have been chirping, the cardinals singing and singing, the geese honking as they go over, and then I saw a large flock of red wing blackbirds yesterday. Spring is arriving. Today it is pouring of rain, then it is getting colder and it looks like a bit of winter will return for a few days. Enjoy March.

    2. I find Red-breasted nuthatches quite enchanting but only see one here about once a year. In fact I planted some red pines just for them, having read that they like that tree. Wow, the gardens in your area are a lot more advanced than mine. You must live in a milder zone than mine in Ottawa. Your cat visitors certainly wear different colours. Thank you for sharing your sights!

    3. Hi, Thanks for popping by! We are in Brighton, down on Lake Ontario so we are a bit milder than you are up in Ottawa.
We just recently moved into this house and one of the first birds I saw was the Red-breasted Nuthatch. Not a bird I saw in our other homes with any regularity. He and the white-breasted ones are frequent visitors at the feeders.
Yes, we have cats of all different colours here at our home. It is really sad that there are so many wandering cats, whether they are owned or not.
Have a good day, stay warm!

    1. Hi Sandra, we live very close to a bird migration stop over area so we tend to have geese and swans here year round. Along with lots of corn fields that provide them food in the winter, geese have a bit easier time here.
