"Leaving On A Jet Plane"

With it being March Break for the kids here I imagine many families are doing just that. We have been "enjoying" very winter like conditions for the last few days. A storm is blowing up outside as I type this.
I try to remember to take my camera outside when I fill up the bird feeders. I'm glad I did a few days ago. I zoomed in and caught the plane flying overhead. Then yesterday this little flock of geese flew over. It was so quiet I could hear the "foof, foof" noise their wings made as they went over me.
We have been having sunny days but it has been COLD!
I managed to get a photo of the female Cardinal in the bittersweet berries.
I was trying out the new iPhoto program and like what it did with this photo of a Grackle.
The woodpecker has been visiting the suet quite a bit. While I filled the feeder yesterday he was tapping up above my head in the tree.
One of our local business's is moving (or closing, I am not sure!) shortly. The Phillip's Farm Supplies opened in 1977. Everything you need on a farm seems to be in the store or they can order it for you. Slowly over the last few years new homes have sprung up all around the business. I believe it shortly will be torn down and new homes put in it's place.
I love this old shed at the back of the lot.
Cold, cold on Sunday when we ventured out to take these photos. Proctor Creek is frozen along the edges and running a little slower now.

The ensuite bathroom is now painted (yahoo) and Chuck is installing new pipes on the toilet right now. That is all the bathrooms painted and given a mini makeover.

I hope you all have a wonderful week!
Take care.
Robin

  1. Your photos "look" cold. I can just imagine you being able to hear the flap of the birds wings. Too bad about the farm store closing. Glad your bathroom painting is complete. Hope you are staying warm. Have a pleasant afternoon and evening.

    1. Hi Mildred, it has been usually cold for this time of year. After a balmy February this is a shock! I am very glad the painting is done. We just didn't care for the colour the previous owners had it painted. We also wanted to update the towel racks , etc.....
      Take care!

  2. Your photos are absolutely gorgeous! And the same storm you speak of began here in Montreal about four hours ago and it is very windy, snowing, with blowing snow! Quite intense. I am happy to hear that your painting is finished. Thank you so much for sharing your lovely photos, much needed today. However, I enjoy your posts all the time! Stay safe and warm. :)

    1. Hi Linda, I was wondering if you would get the storm. It didn't end up being too bad here. Down around Hamilton-Niagara area it is quite bad. We did venture out for a walk in a lull in the storm and made it home just before it picked up again.
Glad you enjoyed the photos. Be careful if you are going out!

  3. OT but... "Leavin' On A Jet Plane" (Don't know when I'll be back again, Oh Babe, I hate to have to go" -sigh-

I used to follow many Military blogs. One couple I knew, were both in the Army, and both deployed. But often, at different time. That song.... Makes me remember them... When one would be going to "the sand pit," and one was still based, at home.

I really tugs at my heart. -sigh-

    Just a memory, of mine....

    1. Very true Luna! Chuck was in the Royal Canadian Air Force for 31 years so we know about deployments!

  4. Your photos are amazing!!!!!!!!!!!

Sad to see old business close.... I'm pretty sure, it could not compete with the big chain stores, which cater to "everything," which they sell/sold. Saddddddd.....

Oh your creek! How beautiful. I love, love, love any moving water. :-)

    1. Thanks Luna, glad you enjoyed the photos.
It is sad to see the business close. We are a big farming community here and they supplied everything for a farm. I hope they end up relocating instead of totally closing.
I love any water too. We have many creeks in town here. I am like a kid, I want to get my rubber boots and go wade in!
      Be safe and warm!

The junco's are such sweet little birds. They come out in all weather even blizzards.
Enjoy the rest of the day!

  6. Isn't it marvelous to 'hear' the wings flapping? Next week, a friend and I are visiting local nature centers, to take photos of birdies and wildlife. That is, if we aren't slogging through snow! Oh well, I'll wear my boots!

    1. Hi Vickie, I stood there with my eyes shut (afterI took a photo) and listened to their wings. It was lovely.
I hope you will post some of your photos from the nature centres.
      Take care.

  8. Hi, Robin! Indeed that water looks cold!! Whew. I love the bird photos. I can just imagine the quietness and hearing the geese fly over. I still love the name "Cinnamon Underpants!" :) xoxo Lynn

    1. Hi Lynn, I would not want to stick my toe in that creek! It would be frigid.
Our neighbourhood is pretty quiet and we do frequently have geese flying over as we are so close to the water. The sound when they fly over is lovely.
      Have a good day!

  9. Nice that the stormy weather didn't affect you too much. It's such a strange Spring.

When geese fly over so low that I can hear their wings I always hope they won't poop on my head. Got hit by a sea gull's poop once. My kids thought it was hilarious...me, not so much.

    1. Hi Granny Marigold, we did end up getting 10cm of snow yesterday. The blowing was terrible though.
I did think about getting pooped on when the geese flew over. But I figured it would be worth it to hear them fly over so closely!
I hear your weather is much better Enjoy!

  10. I love the photo effect with the grackle. Very atmospheric, moody, arty! Really good capture of all the birds, and the plane overhead. Love the light in that one.

I always find it terribly sad to have land sold off for yet more development. It's depressing, actually, to see the land destroyed.

Oh, love the shots of the creek too! My dream, to live near a creek--far up enough not to be flooded, but close enough to hear it every day. :-)

    1. Hi Kim, I thought the Grackle photo was interesting, just something different. Thanks for your kind words!
The new housing development I think is being done in part with the Phillips Farm Store. I looked on their website and a link to the new homes is right there. I assume then that they sold their land to a developer or maybe they are building them themselves.
It is lovely to walk by the creek and hear it running. Growing up we went to New Hampshire every Summer. Our cabin was maybe 10 feet away from Lake Winnipesauke (sp). It was lovely to lay in bed at night and hear the whoosh, whoosh of the water hitting the shore.
      Take care!

    1. Hi Mitchell, we survived the snowstorm and dug ourselves out this morning. It is supposed to start warming up today with some sunshine tomorrow.
I don't like to deal with anything heavy on my blog. There is enough to get sad or mad about out there already. I love nature and hope a few people in this world enjoy what I post. I love that you, all the way in Spain, can visit with me and I can do the same with you.
      Have a good day!

  14. You have some nice bird shots...I have hardly taken any. I quit feeding because basically all I was feeding the last few times is starlings. And I don't mind them eating some, but they would flock in and clean the feeder in a couple hours with the songbirds hardly getting any.

I love that old shed, too. Don't know why but it appealed to me.

    1. Hi Rose, that's too bad you had to stop feeding the birds. Starlings can be a nuisance!
I really liked the old shed too. It had been cleaned up a bit since the first time I saw it.
      Have a good day!

    1. Hi Jenn, as we just moved into this house late last summer I had no idea that the bittersweet berries turn such a beautiful colour in the winter. I love looking out and seeing the birds eating amongst them!
