"Black Crow Blues"

Alfalfa paid another visit to the feeders yesterday. The other birds were not too happy with his company but the squirrels stayed put and just kept an eye on him as he ate.
Hot and humid the last two days and for the next few according to the weather forecasters. I am NOT a fan of this weather. My hair tends to do the same as this female cardinals head feathers!
This little one looks like he is smiling at me as I was taking his photo.
Not much going on around our home right now. It feels strange to be alone in the house during the day now. Last summer Chuck was off work so we were together quite a bit. The previous nine summers our cat Sam was alive so at least there was another living, breathing being in the house. Very quiet now.
We move into our new home in just under six weeks. We have everything arranged, utilities, taxes etc… so it is just a matter of waiting now. It will be a long six weeks I think!
I will start packing up items we don't use on a daily basis such as the good dishes, winter clothes, that kind of thing.
I don't think I have posted this photo before. It is my sister, brother and I in July 1966. I was two, my brother was five and my sister eight. Love the haircuts! My Dad cut everyones hair back then.

Well, I must be off. I have to take the car in for servicing. When we were having the brakes serviced the mechanic noticed a clip missing from the emergency brake cable. He placed an order for a new clip but found out that the clip can not be purchased alone, the whole brake cable has to be replaced. A two minute job will now take an hour. Thankfully it is covered by the warranty so no cost to us.

Take care add stay cool!
Robin

  1. Waiting usually is the most difficult part of just about anything, but you'll be surprised how quickly the six weeks pass, when you look back at it. Your packing definitely will keep you occupied!

All your birds and critters must be sweltering too. You must have bird baths, I just can't remember how many, where, etc. A dip in a pool would feel pretty good right about now! (They've just shut off our ac about half an hour ago, so it's actually okay at the moment.)

You and your brother and sister were adorable. Mom would cut my bangs (ugh!), but not all my hair. Even so, when I was young she'd have the hairdresser cut it super-short, even a bit shorter than your sister's in that old photo. I hated my hair until I was about 12, when Mom finally let me grow it. (Ah, we're all scarred for life by our parents somehow, right?)

As for your car -- it's great the repair is covered!

Take care and have a good evening. I'll be leaving the office soon to go home and swelter. LOL.

    1. I do hope the time flies by Kim. It seems so long since all this started!
The birds are sweltering. I have 4 birdbaths and in this heat I fill them twice a day. The black squirrels flake out in the shade of the trees.
My Dad cut out hair for years. I was 16 years old before I went to a hairdresser for the first time! I can count on two hands how many times I have been to a hairdresser.
Not too bad at the repair shop. It only ended up taking 45 minutes but there was a T.V blaring the whole time. I was trying to read my book but not having much success. The only other chairs in the whole place were in the blazing sun and it was too hot to go outside. Oh well!
I hope this heat breaks soon. I hate the thought of you and the boys sweltering.

  2. I'm sure packing things up will make the time go by quickly.
Nice close up shot of the crow. They don't stand still very long.

    1. Hopefully Karen. I am getting very good at packing having done it more than a few times!
Thanks for your kind words about the crow photo. He was taking a break at one of my birdbaths when I took the photo.

  3. Love the pictures of the Crow and squirrels. We are having horrible heat here too. 100 degrees tomorrow. So I am putting water every where possible. Hope the move goes well for you.

    1. Thanks Marg! I guess quite a bit of North America is in a heat wave. I guess I shouldn't complain. We have probably 6 months of not so great weather here.

  4. It's a chilly damp day here. We could do with some sunshine but not the awful heat you are having. Guess we have to take what we get. I hope the 6 weeks fly by so you can get settled into your new place. I just realized that in 6 weeks summer will be almost done.

    1. So sorry you are having not the greatest weather. Yes summer is just flying by. I guess I shouldn't wish away the heat. It will be gone before we know it!

  7. High humidity is no fun even when you don't have hair...

Yes, waiting to move will probably be yhard. If you are like me, now that things are arranged, you'll just want to get the transition over with and be settled again. But you'll be in your new home soon.

    1. You are right, I do just want to get it over with. Part of it too is I find it hard to say goodbye. We have made some good friends in this neighbourhood and I know we will only be ten minutes down the road, but friendships sometimes fall by the wayside. I hate to leave the next door cats, Toby and Oreo!
