Day Tripper.

Despite the clouds in these photos it was a beautiful morning so we decided to head down to Prince Edward County this morning.
In Trenton there was hardly a cloud in the sky but when we got down to the county you could see the clouds hanging over Lake Ontario.
In the wintertime a cloud bank will often hang over the lake like this.
We stopped off at this Farmer's Market for some vegetables. The Homemade Donuts were tempting but I had my own homemade muffins along for a snack.

We arrived in Picton and walked around for an hour of so. This is Sir John A. Macdonald, Canada's first Prime Minister. He practised Law in Picton in the mid 1800's before becoming Prime Minister.
Just a shot of the downtown. Many great old buildings.
We popped into an antique store for a quick look. So much to look at it was hard to take it all in.
I quite liked this little Singer sewing machine. The brown mixing bowl in the background is the same one I got for a wedding shower present!
The octagonal house. We have lived on and off in this are since 1986 and this is the best this house has ever looked. I'm glad someone has fixed it up.
Lovely old church.
I think this house is beautiful. Again it has been in various states of repair over the years but it looks like someone has really put some money into it.
So many different animals were out enjoying the day.
Some corn still standing.
Trees starting to change here too.
We have watched this barn disintegrate over the years.
Chuck pulled over when we saw these beautiful horses right by the edge of the road. They all looked up when I got out of the car.
Then went right back to their eating. This would make a great photo advertising Smitty's wouldn't it?
It wasn't until we got back in the car and were driving away I remembered I had carrots from the Farmer's Market. I could have given some to these beauties.
This was our only purchase besides the veggies. Fifty cents at one of Picton's thrift stores.
I am so cheap! (no, frugal!)

Nice to get away for the morning. Back to the dentist tomorrow to have my gum graft checked. Great.

I hope you are having a nice day. Take care.
Robin

  1. What a cute mug! I ought to go bargain shopping with you, Robin, you find amazing deals.

You had another lovely road trip. My favourite pics are of the horses, of course. :-)

BTW, apparently Sir Johh A. practiced law...and lived...everywhere in this region. LOL. Have you ever been to Belleville House here? I've been several times, always fun. It's not expensive, next season, if you are in town, consider going!

I hope you're bundled up, it's COLD. I'm not turning the heat on quite yet, though, can't bring myself to.

    Take care.

    1. I would love to go shopping with you Kim! I always find it interesting to shop with people for the first time. I think you learn a lot about a person.
We thought of you right away when we saw the horses.
We haven't been to Belleville House but have heard of it. We would enjoy going. John A. did get around!
Another cool, blustery day today. We turn on the furnace in the mornings to warm the house up.
I hope you are enjoying your days off.
      Take care.

  5. I really like the brick house with the front porch. I'm always glad to see older homes being fixed up rather than torn down, especially if they have nice old woodwork.

    1. I do love old brick houses. The County if full of beautiful old homes. I couldn't begin to take photos of all of them. I love just to walk around the old neighbourhoods and gawk at the houses.
      Take care.

    2. I always thought it would be neat to take photos of the old, tumbling down barns, actually. Probably someone has, and has published a book! I know there's one on outhouses of Canada (old now), but I'm not sure about old barns, or old homes.

I missed your last sentence re: the gum graft check...I hope all went well, Robin!

    3. Everything is healing fine, Thanks Kim. The dentist did say " The roof of your mouth looks a little raw". What an understatement! Still rather hard to eat.

  6. Ouch, you poor thing, I hope it's healing and getting more comfortable for you. It's interesting seeing how properties change over time with different owners, it's a shame about the barn. I love a good look round an antique shop, certainly plenty to see there xx
