Down On The Farm.

Tractors pulling trailers are a pretty common sight around our area at this time of year. Corn and soybeans are being harvested.
It was as lovely day on Thursday so we decided to go to Rutherfords, one of our favourite Farm Markets. First though we had to go get our Flu shots. We get them at a local pharmacy. We were in and out in 10 minutes and on our way. The photo above is the Murray Hills just outside of Trenton.

This soybean field was just harvested.
Beautiful old barn. Reminds me of one of my Opa's barns.
Rutherfords is only 20 minutes away so we visit quite often. Lots and lots of pumpkins. I usually purchase quite a bit of apples this time of year to make applesauce. Rutherfords sells "C" grade apples which may have some scars and irregular shape but are great for cooking and baking. We purchased 1/2 bushel for $8.00 and some delicious looking pears. Most of the products are grown right there on the farm. If not, then they source out local products from neighbouring farms.
Apples went into the trunk and we were back on the road.
We then stopped at the little town of Colborne, just a few minutes down the road. We parked and had a walk around town. The gardens are beautiful on the main street so I couldn't resist taking a few photos.
I love the orange colour.
Even the seed heads are pretty.
The trees are so lovely right now.
A church on the main street recently boarded up.
Back on the road and heading for home. The sun was streaming through the clouds over Lake Ontario.
We stopped for some reason (I can't remember!) and I spotted these gorgeous trees across the street.

While we were in Colborne we popped into their Thrift Store. Oh my goodness, what a great place. Books, magazines, records were a quarter and the clothing was incredibly cheap. I picked up this cashmere sweater for $3.00! It is so soft and warm. I picked up some books for my Mum as she can't get out to the library or thrift shop for reading material. A good day all around.
Back at home I noticed the junco's are back so you know winter is coming. Oh well. I guess I will enjoy the Fall while it is here.

I hope you are having a wonderful weekend.

Take care.
Robin

  2. My favorite pictures are the soybean field and the old, dilapidated barn. :-)

What a nice jaunt you had! And that sweater! Awesome! I should just have you shop for me, Robin.

Enjoy the rest of the day. Oh, did you get the wild wind and rain last night? It woke me up more than once. I'm surprised I didn't get water in the basement.

    Take care!

    1. I love that barn too. Another one we have watched disintegrate over the years.
The Colborne Thrift Shop is terrific! We will go visit my Mum in a couple of weeks and will pop in on the way. I am sure my eyes popped out of my head when I saw the sweater.
We did get the wind and rain last night. It kept waking me up so I am rather pooped today. Glad you didn't get water in your basement!
      See ya!

  3. Nice to see some pretty flowers still blooming.
Beautiful blue sky and fall colors.
I've only had one flu shot in my life!!
I see lots of tractors around here too.

    1. Hi Karen, we always get a Flu shot as Chuck has asthma and could become very ill if he got the Flu.
It is surprising the amount of flowers still blooming. We are supposed to get a frost tonight though so that would be the end of the flowers. I bring my pots into the garage at night to protect them. I want flowers as long as I can!

  4. Is there anything more exciting to a thrifter than a great store with cheap prices? Love the sweater. Also the neat photos of trees etc.

    1. I can't wait to go back to the thrift store. I need a couple pairs of jeans and Chuck always seems to need sweatshirts. Have a great week!
