The Lovecats.

Chuck and I have the pleasure of babysitting Toby and Oreo this week as their parent's are away. When I went over to feed them yesterday morning they both ran into the kitchen and waited. As I was cleaning their bowl I turned around and saw this. Toby was washing Oreo's face. Oreo just tolerates Toby so I was surprised she let him wash her face.
After eating their breakfast I found some of their toys and we played for awhile. I love these kitties!
I just wanted to share this. One of my relatives posted this on Facebook. My Oma never went anywhere without her babushka! I never in all my life saw her wear a winter hat. I haven't seen a lady with a babushka since my Oma died.
We had a snowstorm on Sunday. We ended up getting a couple inches along with gusty winds. A flock of birds hung around the backyard for a long time. Here is part of the flock, mostly starlings.
A downy woodpecker stayed for quite awhile too snacking on sunflower seeds.
He eventually flew up the maple tree beside the deck and seemed to snooze for a few minutes. The snow piled up on his face as he was sleeping. He woke up and shook himself off and flew away.
A few robins were in the flock of starlings sitting in one of our trees.
This is what has occupied our time for the last couple afternoons. Trimming the basement stairs. What a joy! Fiddly angles and cuts but it is done.
Beautiful sunrise Monday morning but COLD!
I filled the feeders this morning and put out some treats for everybody. Peanuts, pumpkin seeds, dried cranberries and shelled sunflower seeds. Ms Tippy (Thanks Kim!) was the first one there and ate alone for a half hour or so. She inhaled the shelled sunflower seeds and then moved on to the peanuts.
Mrs Cardinal showed up shortly but had to be satisfied with regular sunflower seeds as Ms Tippy had pretty well eaten them all.
Mr Cardinal made a brief appearance.
For some reason Blogger would not load on my computer so I am writing this on Chuck's old computer. I will have to get Chuck to check it out.
Well I must go. It is time to feed the kitties and have a visit with them.
Take care!
Robin

  1. What fun to cat-sit! They're both lovely cats and I'm sure appreciate the attention you give them.

Your flock of starlings in the trees makes me think of the old Alfred Hitchcock movie, The Birds. I know they weren't starlings...just the flock of them made me think of the movie. (Weren't they crows or ravens in the movie?)

Anyway, I'm glad to see that Ms Tippy is doing well and helping herself to the buffet. And you still have robins around! I won't see one till March, except on your blog. LOL.

    Take care, talk soon.

    1. i do love cat sitting these two. I feel bad I can't spend more time with them. They do miss their parent's!
I thought of the Bird movie too when I saw the flock. They would sit for a minute or so in the tree then something startles them and they zoom off and circle around and settle again. Interesting to watch.
I will post robin photos when I see them. Poor things didn't know what hit them on Sunday!
Great talking to you last night!

    1. Hi Ronna. Oreo is a sweet old girl. She loves to cuddle, where Toby doesn't. We really enjoy taking care of them.
This is the first winter I can remember that we have had so many robins stay.

    1. Thanks Gill! Hard to pick which photos to post as I had a number of cute ones.
I wonder anymore how many older ladies wear headscarves?

  4. My Mom often wore a Babushka and although not common, there are still older Mennonite ladies here in Abbotsford that use them too. Since we have a significant population of women who wear head scarves of various kinds all in all no one looks askance at them. I have seen a number of pics of the Queen wearing a babushka type of scarf too. They are so practical I think we should bring them back in style.

    1. Headscarves are very practical. My Oma had very thin hair she wore in a bun so the scarf helped to keep it neat and tidy. I too have seen the Queen with her scarf on. I remember my Oma had a basket with all her scarves in it. We loved to put them on when we were kids.

    1. Hi Caren. I didn't realize it was National Squirrel Appreciation Day. I just about missed it. I don't think I could appreciate the squirrels anymore than I do!

  7. I love seeing cats get along like Toby and Oreo, even if it's just now and then. Only Tungsten and Renn groomed each other, and Tungsten is gone.

    1. It really is just now and then they get along. I was just over there and was playing with them. Toby came over to Oreo and I to get a toy and Oreo just growled at him. Poor Toby!
