"O Tannenbaum"

I was recently leafing through a family history book when I came across this set of Christmas photos. This book is about my Dad's family and their arrival in Canada. My Grandfather (Opa) came to Canada in 1926 along with his brothers. sisters, Mom and his Opa. His father had been killed just a few days before they were to leave Russia. The photos above are from the early 1930's . Sorry, they are rather hard to see. My great Uncle Peter is in  the bottom left photo while my Great Oma is in the photo on the bottom right.
In this set of photos below my Dad Rudy is sitting on my Great Oma's lap along with his sister Erica. Two of his brothers are in the photo as well. This would have been taken in the late 1930's.
The other photos are my Great Uncle's and my Opa Willi cutting firewood.
The photo above is self explanatory if you read the text. What caught my eye is the date of the arrival of the last of the family. Ninety years ago today! Thankfully someone over the years kept all these photos and the whole family can now enjoy them.
Gorgeous sunset a couple nights ago. I never tire of this view!
We received a bit of snow overnight so I went out this morning to clear off the deck and fill the feeders. This Robin was chirping away at the top of the tree.
I had scattered some peanuts yesterday and this squirrel must have found one.
So many Junco's this winter.
I scattered some more peanuts out for everyone and the squirrel was quickly enjoying them.

Have a wonderful Holiday everyone. Thank you so much for visiting and commenting all year long. I am continually amazed at the kindness of fellow bloggers. You all are great!

  1. Happy holidays, Robin! The old photos are amazing treasures to have. I'm not sure if my uncle Peter has old family photos, I know Dad had an old album, I used to look at it as a child, but it's been decades since I've seen it.

    The sky was amazing!

And as always, you have so many critters. :-)

Take care and we'll see you soon, I hope. Hugs.

  6. Such a pudgy little squirrel.

I'm surprised you still have robins. I went to a coffee shop in Green Cove Springs (Florida) and saw what I thought was EVERY ROBIN IN THE WORLD!!! LOL

    1. Hi Dee, thanks for stopping by. The squirrels need to be pudgy this time of year to be able to get through the winter.
It is only the last few years that we have seen Robin's staying here for the winter. It would have been a lovely sight to see all those Robin's!

    1. Hi Natalie, my Opa's journey and arrival in Canada is quite a story. He didn't talk much about it but thankfully somewhere along the line everything was written down and we now know the history.
I wish you and Gordon and all your critters a Happy New Year!
