"Hole In The Sky"

Once again it is Tuesday and we are expecting a storm. Listening to the news this morning the meteorologist stated that Tuesday's seem to be a bad day for storms this winter. (Please click on all photos to see them bigger!)
Crows!
We have been enjoying some sun over the last few days.
A woodpecker finally found the suet. I have noticed one there almost everyday now. Story behind these two photos. I was dusting in  the kitchen and looked out and saw the woodpecker. My point and shoot camera was sitting on the counter so I grabbed it and got a couple shots.
Then the woodpecker flew off into a tree. I knew I wouldn't be able to get another good shot so I ran and grabbed my better camera. I quickly took a few photos and knew I better get a few more as my camera is so temperamental. Then Miss Kitty started hollering at the deck door for food, the timer started beeping for the pan of brownies I had in the oven, but I needed to get a couple more shots. I did, then as I turned to open the deck door for Miss Kitty I tripped over the little hand vacuum I use to vacuum the small carpets. Scared the heck out of Miss Kitty! I hobbled over and turned the timer off on the brownies. Through all this I managed to hang onto the camera. Miss Kitty was fed, the brownies weren't burnt and I got the photo!
Snowball shows up every few days. I gave her a good brushing and fed her up before she went on her way.
We headed to Belleville yesterday to do a few errands. We still have hardly any snow.
I may have shown photos of these two houses before but I can't remember!
The people in this home sold fresh fruits and veggies for years at a small stand in front of the house.
Here is My Favourite Antique Store. Closed since last May and for sale. I really miss it! It is such an old building. I believe it was a grocery store first and for 20+ years a fabric store.
Yesterday afternoon we did receive a dusting of snow. Big, fluffy flakes so not much to shovel.
Part of my Christmas arrangement outside.
Sedum's in  the yard.
So glad for the lovely colour from the bittersweet vine during this grey time of year.
During the worst weather the Junco's are at the feeders.
I've noticed them eating the bittersweet berries lately. I read online that the berries have to go through a few freeze and thaw cycles before the birds will start eating them.

Chuck and I went for our walk at 6:30 this morning as shortly it is supposed to start freezing rain. I've filled the bird feeders and Miss Kitty has already been here for her breakfast. Today is definitely a day to hunker down in the house!

Take care.
Robin

  1. Take care, with the coming snow/ice!!!!

Lovely photos of around your area.... Beautiful old homes!

And that was a test-of-valor, getting those bird pics!!!! Without breaking a leg or something. ,-)

Love that first photo!!! Love it!

It would be delightful, if you had your width settings set, so you could post all your photos, WIDE. Then people would see them, "in all their glory", right away, when they come to your blog. :-)

    1. Hi Luna, glad you enjoyed the photos!
It started freezing rain a few hours ago. Doesn't look like we will be heading out for a couple days!
Not be too computer savvy I don't know if I will be able to figure out how to widen the photos but thanks for the suggestion!

  2. Good Morning! I applaud you for hanging on to your camera with everything that was going on! lol Love seeing the woodpeckers and juncos. We are experiencing a warm winter so far. We had one light dusting of snow several weeks ago. Yesterday we went out to prune the hydrangea and realized it already has green leaves forming on it! Stay safe and warm today. Blessings, Mildred

    1. Hi Mildred, I was not going to let that camera go! It had been such a strange winter for everyone. No green leaves forming on our hydrangea yet!
      Take care.

  3. Oh, what we'll do to hang onto our cameras and get our shots! :-) Glad you managed to juggle all of that without mishap!

Your pics today are particularly good, Robin, love them all! Especially the first two and the berries.

I recognized the former antique store right away. I wonder how long it will take to sell the building--it's already a long time!

I am NOT looking forward to the commute home this afternoon. If the buses are off the road, I will be scr*wed and will be creeping over the ice (I brought my ice grippers for my boots) for the 5 kms. I really, really hope that won't happen!

    1. Hi Kim, I was not going to drop that camera as I knew I had a bunch of photos I hadn't downloaded yet!
The first two photos were pure luck as it as so sunny I just pointed the camera up at the sky and clicked. I was happy with how they turned out.
The former antique store if you remember was rather decrepit needing lots of repairs. I am not surprised it hasn't sold yet.
Good gosh, be careful on your way home. I've heard there's been a few accidents on the 401 already. I hope you don't have to walk home!
      Take care.

  5. Love seeing the skies and birds there. I can't believe how often I have to running around the house looking for the last place I put my camera. Maybe I should have two! Brownies on a blustery day sounds like the way to go!

    1. Hi Robin, I do try to remember to put my cameras back in a certain cupboard but it doesn't always happen!
The brownies were delicious. When Chuck came hone from work he said he could smell them as soon as he opened the door.
      Have a good evening!

    1. Hi Marcie, it had been freezing rain for a few hours now and it looks rather treacherous out there. Thankfully we don't have to go anywhere for a couple days!
Hope you don't get much of the freezing rain.
      Thanks and stay safe!

    1. Hi Rose, I am so glad you enjoy my posts. I often wonder if people are interested. I always like to read about other people's days too.
The bittersweet vine is so lovely to look at. As we sit and eat our meals Zi can look right at it. Usually a bird or two are in it flitting around.
      Have a good day!

  10. I can definitely sympathize with you about the storms. Schools were closed here again today. Next apparently it will be freezing rain.
I can also sympathize about tripping and taking a fall. Glad you didn't get hurt. I fell last week and have a very large bruise on my hip to show for it. Thankfully I didn't break it!!
Love those old houses. I want one!! Actually if I won the lottery I'd have a new "old " house built. All the nooks and crannies but not the problems of a genuinely old place.

    1. Hi G.M, I am so sorry you fell! I am glad you were not hurt too badly. I bonked my knee which is a little painful now.
I do love old houses too. When Chuck and I were first married we lived in a house built in the 1920's. Much was still original except sadly the kitchen. We had a very deep claw foot bath tub and 8 inch baseboards and trim. But as you say there always seem to be problems with old houses. The basement leaked quite badly!
Hope you hip feels better soon!

  11. Robin, I just love this post! First, I am glad you held onto your camera! :) Sounds like you had a lot going on, and reminds me of both me and my mom! Always stirring more than one pot! And that is SO sweet that you brush and feed Snowball before she heads out on her way again. Sigh. I love kitties. I can just imagine how you miss the antique store. It's sad how places like that close. Just hard for them to stay open. I understand the struggle, even with my own shop. Our entire complex seems to be up for "bigger and better" development, so I may not be there much longer. Time will tell. xoxo Lynn PS -- glad you did not get badly hurt with your tumble!

    1. Hi Lynn, I am so glad you enjoyed the post. Your Mom mentioned in her comment that a similar thing could happen to her too! Like mother, like daughter!
I do love kitties too obviously, just can't have one at this moment so I make do taking care and feeding some of the neighbourhood cats.
It is hard now for small shops. We had one close last week here in our little town. It gets very quiet here in the winter and it is hard to make a living through these lean months. It would be sad if you had to close up shop!
Take care and have a good week!

  13. As always, exceptional photos! Beautiful works of art. As for the timer, the brownies, the cat, and the camera. I would have knocked the timer on the floor, tripped over the cat, dropped the camera, and burnt the brownies. I am in awe!

    2. Ohhhh.... The fall, hurt your knee!!!!

Do take care of it, and don't push it. I have finally gotten over a long bout of knee pain. No fun!

And we had freezing rain storm, too. Luckily, no power outages. Ice always scares me. Worry about power going out.

But just gonna' be c-o-l-d. At least, we can cover up, to deal with c-o-l-d.

      Gentle hugs,
      Luna Crone

    3. Hi Luna, I am babying the knee a bit and putting some pain relieving cream (forgotten the name) on it. Thanks for caring!
Our power flickered a few times but thankfully stayed on.
