"Flower Parade"

Despite our frigid temperatures the snowdrops are still beautiful. We are bundled up against the cold and they are blooming happily.
We updated my Mac yesterday and oh my goodness, what a hassle! I am not computery at all, Chuck is through trial and error but not with Mac. I've had this computer almost five years and we've NEVER updated it.
Old Brighton Train Station, now a Train Museum.
The big thing that changed was the photo program. I haven't tried downloading any photos yet into the new program. We will see what happens!
It was a lovely warm day a few days ago so off I went with my camera to take some shots around town. These wagon wheels and plow are outside an old factory that has seen many changes in the last few years. Initially it was a great antique store. I loved visiting just to walk around the inside of the building. Then it was an old fashioned general store. It was empty for  a time and last summer became an antique store again but the prices were very high. I believe it is empty again.
Terrible photo but he was flitting around so quickly and I was only able to get this one photo.
Venus was so bright a few nights ago. It is in retrograde right now. To read more about it click here.
My 10 year old camera can still take decent photos when it is in the mood! The bittersweet berries must be very tasty right now as the Cardinals are frequently in the vines munching.
I am very pleased the Mourning Doves continue to visit the feeders daily.
I haven't seen Mr Cinnamon Underpants in a few days but the White Breasted Nuthatch was bopping around in the maple tree.

Quiet here this week. Chuck continues to paint the ensuite bathroom. We put up new towel bars and t.p. holder with the new mirror, light and faucet being done on Monday hopefully!

My Mum is fully recovered from her fall a couple weeks ago. She now keeps her walker right beside the bed and uses it to steady herself when she gets out of bed.

Sorry, not much of a post but I am buggy eyed from staring at this computer for the last day trying to figure out all the new things.

Take care and have a wonderful weekend!
Robin

  1. It is stressful updating computers. Glad your mom is so much improved. I love the variety of birds you have shared here and the greedy little squirrel! The train station and the antiques make for good photo ops. Hope you have a nice Saturday.

    1. Hi Mildred, it was rather stressful fiddling with the computer. I really don't know much about them and I was worried it would not be the same at all. But it needed to be done as we could no longer watch many videos.
      Have a great weekend!

  4. The snowdrops are so beautiful! I love your bird photos, especially the red cardinal in the berries. I like your Venus photo. It looks so bright.

Good luck with your computer stuff. I love antique stores, but since I never buy anything, I don't mind if they're expensive. They're so fun to look around.

    1. The snowdrops are lovely, just what we need this time of year. I am glad you enjoy my photos!
I always take a peek outside before we go to bed to see what's up in the sky. Venus has been very bright.
Growing up my parents always took us kids antiquing most Sundays. I remember how inexpensive things were. Wish I had bought more then! Luckily my parents did buy some things so we do have a few things and we have picked up a few more things in our married life.
Hope you all have a good weekend!

  5. The photo of the plows and wagon wheels is fantastic! Also, the cardinal and the bittersweet is such a gorgeous color combination, isn't it? Love it! I am envious of the blooming snowdrops. I need to plant a few. I wonder if they would bloom as early here? Have a great rest of the weekend!

    1. Thanks Marcie, I am glad you enjoyed the photos. I was very happy the cardinal one turned out. They can be so skittish!
I would think the snowdrops would bloom around the same time as here. We are on the northern part of Lake Ontario.
Take care and enjoy the rest of the weekend too!

  6. You take beautiful photos! That one of Venus, is spectacular.

My iMac is so old, it can't be upgraded any more. Which is good, and bad. Good, in that I don't have to deal with any "new-shiny-things." >,-) Bad, in that it simply can't keep up with all the constantly running "things," which load, on lots of sites. Videos begin to run, without your clicking on them. Etc. Etc.

My old iMac can't handle trying to load too many of them. So every time I go off the computer, I have to Clean Out History. And then, close down Firefox. So my History will be deleted. It is easy. This does not completely re-boot my machine, so it isn't "bad" for my computer.

It's just something, I now have to do. :-)

My iMac is perfectly fine, for what I do. So I have no plans on getting a new one. I just have learned to take care of it, with more tender loving care. :-)

    1. Hi Luna, thanks for your kind words about my photos.
This is my first Mac so it was a real learning experience to figure it out! I do enjoy it very much though. We upgraded the memory and something else I can't remember, when we had it built so I shouldn't need a new one for some years yet.
      Enjoy the day!

  7. I would like to visit that train station and love the dove. they are such sweet dumb birds. the cardinal is gorgeous and made me smile because daddy hated those berries, they were on the front side of our house and the birds would eat them and then sit in the pecan trees and make nice red 'drops' all over the porch and cars, no garage back then... I don't have a MAC so can't help, but if you put out a pleas for info from MAC users someone will help.

    1. Hi Sandra, the train museum is only open through the Summer. We didn't get there last Summer but I definitely will this Summer. He has some really old train cars and interesting things inside too.
I do love doves too and yes, they are dumb but so beautiful!
      Great story about your Dad!
I will figure out all the updates eventually. There is so much on this computer I don't even know about!
      Have a good day!

  8. I think your photo of the squirrel is very good! I know how they tend to flit about, it isn't easy capturing them! Your photos are all beautiful, I love this series! I am very happy to hear that your mom has fully recovered. I have never had a MAC, but upgrades on any device can be a challenge! I wish you all the best. Hugs.

  9. Hi Linda, thanks so much! My camera battery was just about done so I knew the photo of the squirrel wouldn't be very good but I thought it was so sweet I wanted to share it.
We think we have figured out everything on my computer. I am very blessed to have a hubby who will attempt this. If I was on my own I would have to take it to The Geek Squad or someone similar!
Hope you have a good weekend. I imagine you are enjoying this freezing weather too! ;)

    1. Hi Mitchell, we were pulling our hair out a bit yesterday but after a good nights sleep we came back and looked at it with fresh eyes. I think we have discovered where everything is. The iPhoto is different and a common complaint about the updated one is it is terrible! Hopefully I can figure it out.
      Have a good evening!

  11. Snowdrops! I think the ones I had seen in February are dead now. LOL.

You got some neat shots walking around. It's funny how you can walk the same route day in and day out and see something different each time. I know that for myself, what will strike me one day I won't really even notice the next (and vice versa).

A red squirrel! I never see them here, not one in the city in the almost 21 years I've been here.

Your cardinal photo could be submitted somewhere, Robin. Did you upload it to the Weather Channel?

I know zilch about the Mac, really. The ex was a Mac guy and I know those who have them are very happy with them. My old Windows laptop is about 7 years old now, but I did update to Windows 10 over Christmas 2015, I think (or was it just this past Christmas???). I think I have it set to do automatic updates. But I don't use the photo editing programs that come with the computer anyway, I use an old version of PhotoShoto Elements. I'll update *that* when I get a new laptop, eventually!

Take care and stay warm. :-)

    1. Hi Kim, I love seeing flowers this time of year!
You know me, I'm so nosy and if I see something interesting I want to check it out!
This is the first time I've seen a red squirrel here. I barely had time to grab the camera and he was gone.
I did submit the photo to the Weather Network, it should be up soon.
We did set the Mac for automatic updates now so no more all day updating! I do love that computer. I dread the day it dies!
Take care and be well Kim.

Cardinals usually stand out so well, you don't usually see them blending in so well. Great shot of it in the bittersweet.

    1. Hi Karen, the Cardinal does blend in very well amongst the bittersweet berries. I heard his chirping and managed to spot him. Luckily he stayed put for a minute or so and I actually got three great photos.

  14. Good to hear your Mom is better. Love the snowdrop photos. I don't use the photo profram on Mac, prefer to use a bit older program from my Canon camera and a downloaded version of Picasa, also older. I can sort my photos my way (by date, folder, etc). Works for me so I'm not messing with it.

  16. First of all, Mr. Cinnamon underpants made me laugh...I need to come up with some names like that. Love your bird shots...they are really good.

I got this new Windows PC and it is Win10 and I have had Win 7...not super different, but still different. But the worst thing of all is Picasa has always been my favorite photo editor...just so quick and simple and never lose the original photo by forgetting and being in a hurry. It is no longer available for downloads...so am trying out a couple things...so know a little bit about what you are going through.

I have to be careful when I download my photos too and quickly put a name on the file or they get lost in the many photos I have. I now have set the computer to get automatic updates.

  17. Oh I dread updating computers....'cause once it's as you like it, then the update and everything is either missing or needs to be upgraded. It IS a hassle!
Love the cardinal in the bush...so pretty. One of my favorites. And the sweet mourning dove, I love to hear them sing.

Hope the photo program works well.

  26. Love seeing the view of your world there. About MAC updates, I remember the last time we did an update on my old MAC, and I've never been particularly fond of the new iPhoto program. I liked it much better when I could put an identifying name to a download of pics. Now it's more interested in if I want to upload to various places with apps and stuff. Oh well. The modern world doesn't always appeal to my sense of things. I'm looking forward to hearing what you think. Also really glad to know that your mum recovered well.
