"Faces In The Window"

Lovely weekend this past weekend. The weather was wonderful, perfect for a couple road trips. On Sunday we headed up to the Codrington Farmers' Market. What a wonderful place! Packed full of vendors all with local produce, flowers, baking, crafts....the list goes on. We purchased honey, corn and a delicious huge apple strudel muffin. On the way back I spotted an abandoned house right on the edge of the road. A quick stop and I jumped out. I only had sandals on or I would have gotten closer.
Empty for some years it still was beautiful.
I so wanted to peek in the windows but with the threat of tics I decided to play it safe and view from a distance.
I zoomed in on one of the lower windows. You can see what looks like wicker furniture here.
Wild grapes were growing in profusion everywhere.
This was facing the road. Newish looking door.
I assume this was the location of the original front door. Kim is coming down for a visit soon. You know where we will be going! With the proper footwear of course.
The clouds continue to be incredible.
I never tire of looking at the skies.
Saturday we popped down to Cobourg for a quick visit. We wanted to visit their Farmers' Market too. After visiting both we prefer the Codrington one.  Across from the market is a lovely park. These giant butterflies were through the park. There was just enough wind all the fabric was flapping. It did look like giant butterflies, so pretty!
Do you have any of these piano's in your area? We have seen three now in different cities.
Floral clock in another park in Cobourg.
Great house down by the beach in the process of being fixed up.
Love the old business building.
Here is Smokey!!! Messy as ever and back to good health. Thank you for all your get well wishes. He is so excited every morning when I feed him. Luckily Miss Kitty did not catch his cold.

Holiday weekend for many of us this weekend. No plans here yet but that could change!

Have a wonderful day!
Robin

  1. I take it there aren't any "No trespassing" signs around that abandoned house. :-D Not that that necessarily would stop us. Ha. (Not unless it was a HUGE sign, that is.) I like the red of the old trim.

The "butterflies" and piano are great. Nope, I've never seen a piano like that, or anything similar for that matter. Pretty cool.

I'm looking forward to the long weekend, particularly the extra day off. Nice not to be heading to work on the first day of school!

    1. Hi Kim, There were no "No Trespassing" signs in sight! I loved the old red trim too. It has weathered so beautifully.
In the Spring we actually saw the gentleman carving the bear around the piano. We couldn't figure out what the heck he was doing then!
We are really looking forward to the weekend too. Hopefully Chuck is done by noon on Friday!
      Talk soon!

    1. Hi Pom Pom, glad you enjoyed the photos! As a farmers daughter and grand-daughter I tend to gravitate towards farmers markets. I love to see what is in season and meet the people who are growing my food.
      have a good day!

  3. It's always fun to have an adventure! Smokey, you've got a little something on your face...hehehe! Just like Patty O'Malley, who then shakes his head and sprays it all over.

    1. Hi Vicki, I am blessed with so many people around me who enjoy going on adventures too!
Smokey ALWAYS has something on his face. Yes, Smokey shakes his head just like Patty. I clean my deck pretty regularly! Although yesterday I saw Smokey washing his face, something I have never seen him do before.
      Take care!

  4. Smokey looks great and glad he is better. I love that old house that is falling down, it was once a lovely lady many years ago and is fascinating to me. I am glad they are fixing up the other home. we have one similar to the first house here and sadly it will be torn down soon, they offered it for free to someone who would move it. no takers.

    1. Hi Sandra, You already know my feelings about old houses! ; )
It is sad to see these beautiful old homes torn down. I imagine it is tremendous the amount of time and money to fix them up.
Hope you and Bob are doing well!

    1. Hi Henny, glad you enjoyed the photos! Blame my Dad for my love of photography. He would have loved this digital age and being able to delete bad photos.
Smokey is very sweet. He gets so excited when I feed him in the mornings. We have progressed to him running his nose along my hand when I put down his bowl. I hope one day to be able to pet him.
      Have a great day!

  6. Do you have any "charms," to hang around your neck? While visiting the old, abandoned house?????? Huuuuuuuhhh? Huhhhh? Huhhhhh? ,-)

And really, tuck your pants in your socks, and wear good footwear. And do a full body check, for ticks, after getting home. Those critters are not to be "sneezed at," as the old saying goes.

    1. Hi Luna, I usually wear a cross around my neck everyday, do you think that will help????
Yes, we definitely will tuck our pants into our socks and wear running shoes. I had on a long skirt and sandals when I took these photos. I was envisioning ticks swarming up my legs!
      Have a good day!

    1. Hi Pam, I LOVE old buildings too. I haven't peeked in the old business yet. Next time we will!
Smokey is a sweetie. In the beginning he would stare at us with these big frightened eyes and not let me get within four feet of him. In four months we have progressed to me being able to stand a couple feet away from him and he doesn't run off when I talk to him. He has the sweetest little meow too.
      Take care!

Glad you enjoyed the photos Laura. I believe we were there when they started to carve the piano. It was an older man doing the work. Never thought it was going to end up looking like that!
      Have a great week!

    1. Hi Briony, Smokey does look rather grumpy doesn't he?? I was crouched down on the deck when I took that photo. A couple months ago he would have ran away if I got that close to him.
The piano is fantastic. A couple times we have stopped to listen to people playing them. It is a wonderful idea!
      Take care.

    1. Hi Karen, I would LOVE to know the history of the abandoned house. From the zoomed in photos I could see furniture still inside . It was frustrating not being able to get closer. Next time long pants and proper shoes with pants tucked into socks!

    1. Hi Granny Marigold, I did take a lot more photos of the abandoned house then the one being fixed up. The old house does have charm. We (I mean Kim and I!) will be better prepared for walking through weeds next time we visit.

    1. Hi Jono, we seem to have quite of few abandoned houses and farms locally. The Winter is the better time to see them but you can also be seen easier too. Chuck stated a few years ago he would rather stay home when Kim and I go off as he can come bail us out if we get in trouble!
      Take care!

Smokey is doing very good. I noticed his eyes are nice and bright. I wonder if this infection/cold had been brewing for awhile in him.
      I bought my journal yesterday!

    1. Hi Rose, so glad you enjoyed the photos. I wish there was some way you could have been along too. Along the way to this house are some beautiful barns.
The "butterflies" were lovely. Seeing them close up is interesting but viewing them from a distance was incredible. They are in a circle around the pond and with a slight breeze it looked so beautiful.
      Have a good week!

    1. Mitchell, thanks for your kind words. Luckily (I think!) I grew up with parents who loved to explore and just threw us kids and a lunch in the car and off we would go. Both my parents grew up rather poor so to have the freedom to do that was amazing to them.
Smokey is a sweetheart. I read somewhere recently that when a cat feels well he washes more than when he doesn't feel well. When Smokey first started coming around he would have food caked on his face a few days at a time. I've noticed since his cold is over with every time after he eats he spends five minutes or so washing all over including his face. THAT makes me happy! Silly I know but that is me.
      Have a good day!

    1. Hi Eileen, both old homes are great. I would love to see the inside of the one being fixed up.
I loved the floral clock too. Growing up I lived in a city near Niagara Falls. They had a gorgeous floral clock that we would visit a few times a year. I must dig out a photo of it.
Smokey is handsome. I hope some day to be able to pet him.
