"All God's Critters"
Hope everyone is having a good week. I was just getting my lunch ready today when I saw a flash of blue out by the feeders. A Bluejay! With the return of cooler weather more birds are coming back to eat. I saw my first Junco this morning. Anyway, my new camera was upstairs and knowing how flitty a Bluejay can be I grabbed my old camera (always in the kitchen) and dashed to the window.
I had sprinkled out pumpkin seeds and dried cranberries about a half hour before. Well, it paid off! Many critters were out there enjoying them and the sunflower seeds I had put out in the feeders yesterday.
The Bluejay posed nicely for quite a few photos. It was watching the squirrel down below snacking on pumpkin seeds.
I see the chipmunks cheeks are full of sunflower seeds.
Perched on the edge of the small birdbath.
He (she?) kept a close eye on the squirrel.
It finally managed to grab a pumpkin seed and flew up into a tree to enjoy it. I snapped a number of photos and looked at the clock. Thirty minutes had gone by!
This was last night's sunset. I was getting in the wash and turned to look over my shoulder. I couldn't believe my eyes. I flung the wash in the baskets and raced upstairs to look out my computer room window. Luckily that is where I usually keep my new camera so out it came. I haven't adjusted the colour, this is what it looked like.
It was fading quickly and only lasted for a few minutes. So glad I went out to get the wash in!
Our maple trees are starting to turn. This one is always the last one.
I am participating in a black and white challenge on Instagram. For seven days you post a black and white photo. I think this was Day Two.
This was Day Three's photo. I do like how this one turned out.
Rainy, rainy weekend is coming up. We had a road trip planned but decided to wait for better weather.
Have a good one!

Splendid photos, Robin, especially of that bluejay. I'm envious! (Or is jealous? LOL.) They know not to come out when I visit. Rats!
ReplyDeleteThe b&w challenge is fun, I'm sure. :-)
Have a good weekend. Too bad the weather will be too crummy to visit, but I look forward to another time. :-)
Hi Kim, Just pure luck I saw the Bluejay at the feeder. They come and go so quickly.
DeleteI did enjoy the black and white challenge. Some photos that look great in colour are washed out in black and white so it made me look at things differently.
Looking forward to our upcoming visit, hopefully this weekend!
faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.......we see ya.......
ReplyDelete☺☺♥♥
robin, that sunset is practically beyond description...NICE CAPTURE !!!!!!
Oh, I knew you guys wouldn't care for the burd photos! Sorry!
DeleteLaura, we have enjoyed such incredible sunrises and sunsets since living here but that one took the cake! It was gone in a matter of minutes.
Have a good week!
Last Saturday we had a lone jay at the feeder - he sat there and yelled at the house and drove Burton crazy
ReplyDeleteHi Valerie, Bluejays do make quite a racket. That is what usually alerts me to their presence at the feeders. Poor Burton!
DeleteHave a good day!
Terrific photos of that bluejay! I am partial to chipmunks, since I don't have any in our yard, and enjoy watching them when I get a chance in a park or at my mother's condominium.
ReplyDeleteHi Vicki, glad you enjoyed the photos. We don't tend to get lots of chipmunks at this house compared to our last home. Way more cats here so the chipmunks are cautious.
DeleteTake care!
Wonderful pictures of the critters. What a great close up of the squirrel. Blue Jays are so pretty.
ReplyDeleteHi karen, glad you enjoyed the photos. The squirrel was quite determined to eat it's fill of cranberries and sunflower seeds before letting the Bluejay get some. They are quite magnificent aren't they?
DeleteHave a good week!
Lovely series of photos. The sunset is gorgeous. I’m enjoying the black & white challenge too. There were more birds at the feeders tiday than there was last week. Enjoy the weekend.
ReplyDeleteHi Linda, thanks for nominating me for the black and white challenge. I quite enjoyed it.
DeleteDefinitely more birds at the feeders these last few days. Although not too many yesterday with that wind!
Have a good day!
Poor Mr. (Miss?) Squirrel ... looks like there is a bite out of one ear.
ReplyDeleteHi Dee, I didn't notice the chunk out of the squirrels ear until you mentioned it. That must of hurt!
DeleteHope all is going well!
Your Blue Jays are quite handsome but to me it always looks as if they're frowning.
ReplyDeleteNow Chickadees... they always look cheery; the B & W photo does him ( or her) justice.
Too bad about your plans having to be put off due to rain.
Hi Granny Marigold, I never noticed that about Bluejays. Robin's seem to me always look like they are frowning. Chickadee's are definitely happy birds.
DeleteWe hope to have our road trip this coming weekend if the weather is good.
Take care!
You've got such a great aesthetic, brilliance with a camera (even the old one), and so much beauty around you.
ReplyDeleteMitchell, how sweet of you to say! I had to look up the word aesthetic! We are very blessed to live where we do. When we were looking for a new home one big thing I wanted was a kitchen table overlooking the backyard so I could see the feeders while we ate. Silly, I know! Growing up we had that and I spent many happy hours over 20 years with my family watching the birds.
DeleteEnjoy your day!
Hello, I love all your bird photos. The chickadee is one of my favorites. Your sunset was beautiful, lovely sight to see. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteHi Eileen, so glad you enjoyed the bird photos! The chickadee one turned out pretty well, I like it too.
DeleteHope you had a good weekend!
Your black and white photos are beautiful, but I have to say the pictures of the bluejay are quite stunning xx
ReplyDeleteHi Cheryl, thanks for your kind words! Bluejays are pretty stunning. One bird I would love to see more of is a Baltimore Oriole. I have only seen one a few times and they are very colourful too.
DeleteHave a good week!
I really enjoyed this post. Such beautiful pictures. Enjoy the weekend.
ReplyDeleteHi Mildred, glad you enjoyed the post. I was just in the right place at the right time that day!
DeleteHave a good day.
Your garden visitors look positively exotic compared to ours!
ReplyDeleteThere's a charity in the UK who put bird feeders in elderly people's gardens and send volunteers to call in weekly to restock them. Apparently watching birds is fantastic for people's mental health and the weekly visits help combat loneliness. xxx
Hi Vix, it is so interesting we have such different birds than you do.
DeleteI love the idea of the bird feeders. Win, win for everyone. The birds get fed, the elderly people have something beautiful to watch and they get company while the feeders are being maintained.
Have a great week!
Robin, as always, your photos are WONDERFUL! I love bluejays. They are so stately and bold. Some don't like them, but I do.
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday!
xo
Lynn
Hi Lynn, thank you for your kind words.Bluejays are very bold. I was surprised this one waited to get a few pumpkin seeds.
DeleteHope you are recovered from your haunted house visit!
Cute squirrel. Nice shots of the Blue Jay and wow that sky is amazing.
ReplyDeleteHi Ida, nice to hear from you again!
DeleteGlad you enjoyed the photos. The sunset was pretty spectacular, glad I managed to catch it.
Have a good day!
