"The Thrill Is In The Chase"

Hi all! I have been away from the blog for a time because Chuck wiped my computer clean and installed a new operating system. It is a bit different then the old one but I quite like it.
We have been blessed with THREE sunny days in a row. I am taking advantage of the great weather and cleaning out the gardens. I always have kitty company and Monday was a busy one. Ralph hung around for most of the afternoon with Miss Kitty and Snowball putting in appearances from time to time. Ralph had spotted a squirrel in the neighbours yard and was stalking it. The squirrel knew he was there and was watching. What Ralph didn't know was Miss Kitty was right behind him.
Here you can see Ralph on the left side watching the squirrel shoot up the tree. Miss Kitty is stretched right out running at Ralph.
Totally blurry because I was laughing and trying to take a photo! Miss Kitty treats Ralph like an annoying little brother. Nothing vicious in their fighting, Miss Kitty could really clean Ralph's clock if she wanted too.
Snowball stayed out of the horsing around and looked handsome on the front steps.
A few minutes later they were back!
You know me and skies!
We had a torrential rainstorm on Sunday. Over the course of the week we received 6 inches of rain. Just like the Spring!
A few nights ago.
A trip on Saturday to the landfill to take bags of leaves for composting. Such a lovely drive through the country.
I bought a few bags of Hemp Heart Bites. I thought the squirrels might enjoy them too.
They sure did!
Along with the usual peanuts.
He was trying to hang on to a few at once!
This poor squirrel showed up on Monday. He walked very slowly to the feeders. I dashed out with some peanuts and he didn't even move away. I was able to put them right in front of him. He ate for 10 minutes or so and then seemed to perk up. He doesn't look too healthy.
The leaves are putting on a beautiful show a little late this year.
Burning Bush????? In our front yard.
Love the veining.

We are supposed to get a mix of weather over the next few days. S--w is in the forecast! Too soon for me.

Take care!
Robin

  1. Lovely photos, Robin. Miss Kitty is full of typical cattitude, that's for sure. :-)

No, I don't think that one squirrel will make it through the winter, he or she does NOT look healthy at all, poor thing.

Take care and enjoy all the dry (and sunny) days we get!

    1. Hi Kim, this is the THIRD time I have tried to answer the comments. What the heck is going on with blogger????
Anyway...Miss Kitty can be a very crabby cat with other cats. She tends to be very possessive of us and the house.
I haven't seen the squirrel again, poor thing. It reminded me of Ms. Tippy.
I have loved the last three sunny days but not looking forward to tonight!
      Take care.

  2. The squirrels ALWAYS stay at least one step ahead of the cats around here, although the cats keep trying. I've noticed a lot of that veining thing happening this autumn, and have been photographing it too. Our backyard squirrels avail themselves of the cat's water bowl, but I don't feed them because that would attract birds, and The POM is pretty good at bagging birds!

    1. Hi Vicki, the squirrels are pretty quick here too. The squirrel Ralph was stalking was the sick looking one but it seemed to perk up once it had eaten.
      Have a good day!

  3. Looks like the cats were enjoying themselves.
No, that squirrel does not look healthy.
What a great close up of the squirrel in the 3 squirrel picture.
Enjoy the nice weather before the snow.

    1. Hi Karen, Ralph is the kind of cat that always has a good time. He loves to play and happily amused himself while I was outside.
Glad you enjoyed the squirrel photo. My old camera decided to work yesterday!
Hope all is going well at your new home build!

Glad you enjoyed the cat chase. When Miss Kitty runs she just flies! She looks adorable because she has a rather chubby bottom.
      Enjoy your day!

    1. Hi Tabbies, all the kitties had a good day and received some treats afterwards.
The squirrel ran off but I imagine he came back later. Always something good to eat at the feeders!
      Take care!

  6. Quite enjoyed watching the fun cat/squirrel/cat adventures. I have never seen a cat actually catch a squirrel -- or a squirrel too worried about the prospect. Lovely pics of November foliage. I wonder if that sickly squirrel has mange? Was it scratching?

    1. Hi Florence, glad you enjoyed the kitty adventures. Sometimes I feel like I spend half my time outside refereeing cats. Ralph wants to snuggle and play, Miss Kitty doesn't want him near me and Snowball stands back and watches and waits for an opportunity to zip in the house.
I once did see a cat catch a squirrel and it was horrible.
I imagine the poor squirrel does have mange. I didn't notice it scratching but it was pretty focused on eating when I saw it.
      Have a lovely day!

    1. Hi Mildred, glad you enjoyed the kitty photos. It can get pretty nutty when a few of them are with me outside. I doubt the neighbours are too thrilled about me feeding the strays but I am horrified how many stray cats we have here.
You have such beautiful countryside around you too.
Hope you and John are well!

    1. Hi Eileen, the kitties were full of beans with the gorgeous weather. Not so much today! Ralph belongs to a neighbour so only comes out on nice days. He is a big mooch and stands at the back door crying for treats. He loves everyone and is always up for a cuddle.
Hope you are having a good day!

    1. Hi Mitchell, thanks again for your kind words. I do wish I have been able to get a clear photo of Miss Kitty chasing Ralph but it all happened so fast. The neighbours I am sure think I am bonkers standing there watching the cats, taking photos. Eh, who cares!!
      Take care.

  14. I will try this again...hope I got the link corrected.

So good to see a post...I did not notice when you posted it, but didn't visit blogs yesterday...did a couple but so much going on. Poor Squirrel...I don't know if it is age or what, but Mama Squirrel got a horrible look to her before she disappeared. (If you follow the link, the first post only mentions her, but the others have photos) I assumed she died.

You have some pretty kitties...I think if I remember right at least some of them are just visitors. We used to have one that would come and stay a week or two...his mom would call and ask if he was here, and we would tell her yes...so it set her mind at ease.

    Love those skies!

    1. Hi Rose, nice to hear from you again! I read on one of your posts you are very busy right now. Hope everything is alright.
I read all your Mama Squirrel posts. What a lovely squirrel! So sorry you don't know what happened to her. In our first home we had a Mama Squirrel too. Very friendly, would come right up on your lap to eat. She stayed around for a couple months and then sadly was hit by a car.
Half of the kitties that come to visit are owned. Loved the story about the kitty that visited you!
      Take care.
